"True Genius"

King Lear, Act 1, Scene 1,  Edwin Austin Abbey - and my son, the actor

True Genius

It begins, Act 1, Scene 1 -
comedic or tragic; the best have both.

A pinnacle role: youthful, manic, valiant -
it doesn't matter, other than a willingness
to toss comfort aside, embrace passion
which will vanish upon final curtain fall,

and a desire to carve an everlasting mark -
not so much for acclaim, but for truth.

Lots of power in that final line and in the poem taken as a whole. Life is indeed a blend of comedy and tragedy--and would we recognize the one without the other?

That takes a lot of courage & I admire the youth (and the mature ones) who does this ~

Truly a brilliant attempt - to carve a mark. You handled micro writing very well.

I have always dreamt to be an actor... And if you can live by the last line it will lead so far...

not so much for acclaim,
but for truth

Many seem to forget this. In one's desire to do good truth is the ultimate!

Those last two lines wrap it up nicely, yes, truth.

I think the best of any art is when the artist strives not for acclaim but for truth. Lovely.

All the world IS a stage! We play our roles the best we can. Our award is self-assured! Nicely done! Walt
