Remember When

Collage by M. Bednar
 Remember When

Beneath bright stars strummed a guitar,
a lover's voice, pure honey,
vowed forever, vowed sweet love
to the beautiful moon and back.

Knee bent, promises meant,
a silver ring placed,
we danced, hands laced,
kissed at the edge of the sea.

Swirled, whirled,
lived dreams, breathless,
eager and restless,
we danced by the light of the moon.

Until one evening,
all light faded,
face unfathomably sad,
moon didn't know what to do

as we looked at each other,
differences observed, melody unheard;
we'd become a masquerade.

So you took wing, over the sea,
Owl to my Pussycat, you disappeared
beyond the lonely light of the moon.

This is linked with "Poets and Storyteller's United #44 To Err is Human".  Divorce isn't just between two people - it unsettles the whole family with a heavy heart.  (This is not about my marriage)

Sad indeed – but you have written of it so beautifully.

Sad, but so true too.
This is what happens when a relationship sours and breaks down. I like the imagery you used in the poem.
Also dig that moody collage. :)

When it comes down to a masquerade - all that will be left are heavy hearts, ..but also maybe the hope there will be something brighter on the horizon, further on and hearts will heal.

Very sad...glad it's not autobiographical.

Yes, Margaret ... you have spoken the truth. It took some time for our family to mesh again (albeit in a new and different way) after our divorce in 1982. Today my children's father is a man I consider my closest friend, his wife and the two daughters they share ... we are all part of one blended family.

I just saw a documentary about Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. This piece made me think of how sad, but how ultimately healing separation was for both of them.

Saying goodbye is sad business. And like your note points out, it affects so many. Sigh.
