The Bluebird's Path
Redbud and jasmine are waking,
sap's begun to rise
upon old fence rail he poses,
heralds dawn with sprightly song
his mate upon six eggs of blue
within their nesting box -
Sky upon his back, joy
within his throat "Turee, turee"
floats nature's pulse
riding springtime's breeze
over farmer's rolling field,
beside bluebird's winding trail.

* (I have always loved Henry David Thoreau's "The bluebird carries the sky on his back")
This is for Imaginary Garden with Real Toad's "All About Abodes" with Helen. I took a bit of liberty as I wrote about a bluebird dwelling. I usually see them on a pole, but this one is attached to a tree - more susceptible to black snakes - but they also nest in old woodpecker holes, so I guess this is natural.
I read the bluebird is in decline and people are putting up bluebird houses. I realize I have two in my yard - one in the front and one way in back. I read they are supposed to be cleaned out each season after nesting. I never knew. I'll have to do that and see if anything transpires.
Also linking this up with Flash Fiction 55. The party is now hosted by Mama Zen & Fireblossom (G-Man is just one of the "regular" guys now :)

Beautiful, Margaret!
This made me smile. I've put up a bird box for the first time this year. Will see if anything decides to inhabit it.
Enchanting! YOURs is magical~
So beautiful...we all need spring.
Margaret, you make it sound really nice and pretty. I am not a bird person but yours sound like a nice bird family.
Our redbuds were blooming about a month ago. Ours has only green leave. The azaleas took their place and now they are waning.
..
love the rainbow world(image) of
the bluebird...simply beautiful..
Very beautiful imagery ... loved it :-)
A lovely poem-- there's a great cadence here. K.
My farm was loaded with bluebird boxes when we moved in. I took a good many down, not knowing the beauty of the bird they served. Tragedy.
Such beautiful writing, Margaret. It reminds me how people always consider the land their property when really it belongs equally to the birds and the beasts too.
What a beautiful spring poem this is, Margaret.
It makes me smile.
Happy day to you!
Just as you are...Perfect!
(Don't argue Margaret)
Makes me happy to read about the bluebird of happiness.
Lovely. I had a pair of bluebirds in my pasture last year that I really enjoyed. Hopefully they come back even if I didn't clean out their nest.
Liberties + blue bird dwellings = a mighty fine poem!
