IGWRT's Sunday Mini Challenge "The Sea"

The Sea

Like incense, almost prayer-like, she surrounds, offers comfort.
I desire full emersion, chant my sins and float carefree,
look skyward into infinity and know I'm loved, forgiven.

This was a challenge I found particularly hard for Imaginary Garden with Real Toads "Sunday Mini-Challenge:  Sijo (See-szo) which is the Korean cousin of Tanka or Haiku.  Click on the above link for a  detailed explanation of the form, but below is the "count":

3 - 4, 3 - 4  pause  14 syllables
3 - 4, 3 - 4  pause   14 syllables
3 - 6, 4 - 3                16 syllables  (44 - 46 syllables in all!)

I didn't give a "twist" to the ending as the structure and count were challenge enough for this evening!

I have had a bit of a blogger break due to having to find a new stable situation for my horse, Oberon.   The move has been made and Oberon and I have already enjoyed a wonderful few days at our new stable - I invite you to follow us at Just Horses.    My horse, Sebastian, I sold to my trainer/riding instructor and I will still be able to see Sebastian often as he is not far away.

Nice to see you back! What a great Sijo! I have to admit that floating in the water staring up into the sky is one of my favorite things in the world. Very nicely written.

You did wonderfully with the sijo and Jaime's photo is so superb, isnt it? I have missed some news, didnt know you were relocating your horses. Hope you are doing okay with all of these big changes. I am obviously behind on-line, as usual, will try to catch up this week. Hope you are well, Margaret.

Sherry, I don't think I mentioned moving my horse (I only have one now) but it did take me a while and I did worry... it is important to really trust the barn managers. I did find a nice place after visiting quite a number of equestrian stables...

Oh... I would NEVER sell Oberon! I just moved him to a different stable. I did sell my 1/2 Friesian, Sebastian...and still see him often.

The sea can have a totally calming effect on the emotions and you captured that so well in your Sijo... and the handsome Oberon! What a treat to see him, though I'm sad to know that Sebastian was sold on :(

This really feels serene Margaret--and the image of floating is very vivid. I'm sad for you, having to sell Sebastian, but glad you can still see him and know all is well with him. (and Oberon is a wonderful name for a horse!)

I have often dreamt of floating on my back in the sea, looking at the sky, feeling at peace with the world through being removed from it.
A beautiful poem, Margaret, and a wonderful photo of your Oberon. So sad you had to sell Sebastian, but how great to have him nearby.

You are right, the sea is like the embrace of a prayer when one is immersed.

Oh, this poem resonates with my heart...this salty freeing floating...captured well, Margaret...it doesn't even need a twist...but actually there's a twist of sorts a shifting into loved-forgiven. Beautiful.

Speaking of beautiful...Oberon....I'm in love...such a gorgeous gift of an animal!! Wow.Thank you for sharing and I'm glad the transition went smoothly.

Aha! So even horses have to move from time to time, I see. And get sold! Glad to see you carrying on with both.
