A Writer's Lament
Seductively you lie upon the table
trying to coax words of endearment
from my lips.
I silently caress your graceful carriage,
unsure what to say.
My pulse races,
fingertips tingling with possibilities
as I imagine hidden places
yet to be explored.
You flirt with me, tease me,
as I start to think
a future together we might have.
But first
you insist the words must come,
convincing you of honorable intentions.
My fingers glide over your top
seeking an encouraging rhythm;
a heartbeat perhaps?
Are you afraid
I will abandon you once again,
leaving you alone in the dark,
forgotten?
I begin to profess my dedication,
my depth, but hesitate.
How do I express it originally, poetically?
I feel you withdraw, distancing yourself.
With oceans of love letters inside me and
talented ideas rolling in with the tide;
a little cooperation, a little help from you
is all I need.
Finally my heart I offer on fragile parchment,
but with a graceful return you spit it out,
crumpling promise without a second glance.
So once again, in the dark you will remain
with rejected words at your side
until I work up courage to approach
with better words, more creative words.
Until then, this longing to be one with you
will remain locked inside, my desire caged.

This could be a metaphor for a real love letter> Maybe you mean it as such? Very good poem.
I like the poem, but I especially like the way you've laid it out with the robot at top hinting at the meaning, and the typewriter as sort of a punchline at the bottom. Of course visitors from Magpie would already be in on the joke. My Magpie this week is Poet.
Love your take on this, Margaret... especially like the first stanza.
very nice margaret...it is an intimate dance between the writer and the machine...i hope you are not too long parted...smiles.
Love/hate. Fabulous write, Margaret.
Loved it!

this was perfect, I love the line "my pulse races, fingertips tingling with possibilities" I feet this way often when I write
This is great! Reminds me if my husband's relationship to his car.
swinging back through on OpenLinkNight just to say hi...hope you have a lovely eve margaret....
i can totally relate to this. sort of how I'm feeling at the moment. just the anxiety alone to try and express how you feel to someone you truly care about is always such a difficult task. For what reason, who knows, since I figure poets would be the best ppl to do such a thing. I guess finding "perfection" in the words is the true struggle, instead of the actual verbiage. thank you for sharing. :)
Dear Margaret
This is lovely.. I enjoyed your soft tempo... slowly rising to crescando as he crumples it in spitful retrun... I liked your lines..
"With oceans of love letters inside me and
talented ideas rolling in with the tide;"
So vivid and imaginative..
Thanks for sharing...

smiles. i remember this one...all hot and steamy about writing...smiles...but yes it is an intimate dance...
Lovely share... intimate yet sad that you can't express your love and dedication. Surely and hopefully in time, you can ~
Nicely done. My mind was not thinking of a type writer that is for sure! :)
I especially enjoyed the image of offering the heart on fragile parchment.
Love your seductive take on writing...because that intimacy with the words is so important in order to create such passion...bkm
Dear Margaret
