A Walk in the Park, 101 & 102/365

Cornwallis and Greene
We walk over bloodshed past
Military Park

The Haiku is for Sunday Scribblings Challenge #249, theme: A walk in the park.  I also submitted the Haiku to Monday One Stop Poetry Form. The top photo is for "Partially Seen in January".  I also entered in Lisa Gordon's "Creative Exchange".  These past few days, we have enjoyed the warm weather (We who were born & raised in the North think anything above 32 degrees in January is a heat wave) before the expected snow storm hits tomorrow afternoon.  This historic park was once a battlefield where many men lost their lives - beloved husbands, brothers, sons.

My three year old son loves pausing to look at the educational posts along the trail with pictures of soldiers, bayonets, and guns as well as the statues of men holding swords.  He is fascinated by these; I hurry him along by saying we need to go feed the ducks.

I would love to get back here if it snows and see how this is transformed.  But over the past few days, we have enjoyed leisurely walks, with no bloodshed other than a scraped hand.  (The photo above was submitted for Macro Monday)

Our temps actually got up to 50F this past week, Margaret, which was so unexpected for us. We're back to just around freezing today. But yes, in Atlanta the last 25 years I was very spoiled on warmer weather. I'm just glad I don't mind a real winter! I love the things you do together as a family and especially like the image of the sword-in-hand!

Gorgeous photos, Margaret! I love the angles of your "partially" photos!

Excellent haiku-- goosebump-inducing, in fact! My own three-year-old would undoubtedly ignore all signs and climb the statues instead.

I want to thank all of you for enjoying my "A Walk in the Park". I visited each of your posts tonight as I sipped a glass of wine. Quite enjoyable! So glad we are having a SNOW day tomorrow -- in central NC of all places.!

Sounds like a wonderful trip, and what better way than to take pictures and bring along your family. Happy to hear you had a wonderful time and thank you for the share. A very Happy New Year to you.

Moonduster, Lisa, Kodjo & Ana, Thank you for your kind words. It is a National Military Park and has a lot of trails - many people jog, bicycle and walk (with or without dogs) all year 'round. Usually no snow here, but I am going to try and get out tomorrow as we received some snow! Not that many statutes, more plaques with the history written on them.

Great shots and a great looking park! Makes me want to go for a walk but I might get stuck in the snow.

Your walk paid off with stunning images...I especially love that last one...a great family memory!

James & tchesney - We didn't really get much snow - the ice is the problem. And the last photo, my 3 year old couldn't decide if he should stay back with me or hang with his siblings. He got more exercise running back and forth! :)

Dear Margaret

Its beautiful and your images are perfect, made me take the walk. Just one suggestion though...one small addition of "All" in your Haiku as below, to make it more connected with the image of bloodshed and Military. Please dont mind it. Even without this, your haiku is beautiful. I hope you would not mind it.

Never any offense taken... my understanding of haiku is that it is a 17 syllable poem ... so "all" was left out... ?
