Harmony

Mountain (sunrise) horizon view from my front porch  My back deck
has another mountain view.
 Harmony

Hold doubt close, bearhug it to your chest,
not a love fest but an intervention;
back it against a wall, unchained.
Let doubt squirm, needle it with questions,
don't settle for illusions.  Demand proof.

Curiosity's often followed with indecision;
embrace it, strip it of control;
allow it a voice, yet hear it with a lambent ear.

The horizon holds divergent clouds;
be not afraid of that which furrows brows
or trembles hands.  Tears followed with a smile
is a rainbow, a promise that false starts
and difficulties survive thunderheads -

that trust and doubt can hold hands.

This is for "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Rommy's Challenge - Words to Live By".   Also a word list from Skylover poetry on Instagram's #skyloverwordlist.   https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/skyloverwordlist/

This poem is inspired by the words of Rilke ... "What should I say about your tendency to doubt your struggle or to harmonize your inner and outer life? My wish is ever strong that you find enough patience within you and enough simplicity to have faith. May you gain more and more trust in what is challenging, and confidence in the solitude you bear. Let life happen to you. Believe me: life is in the right in any case." (Rainer Maria Rilke) Furnborg, Jonsered, Sweden, November 4, 1904 Letters to a Young Poet

"Frank P."

Frank P.

His dark hair would slide across his forehead
as he concentrated on bankrupting me,
my get out of jail card long gone
and half a board away from collecting $200.
Wouldn't survive past Pacific Avenue
let alone Boardwalk unless I got lucky
and landed on Chance.

The little dog was cute; about all I had
going for me...  Well, if I'm honest,
I had his smile, his dark eyes,
and two hours of Saturday afternoons.

He'd claim to be the winner,
but I say we tied.

"Obsession"

Obsession

"The Heart wants what it wants" - Woody Allen

Desire (or dependence?) is a fervor
where "I love you" (or "I want you?")
is a succor from your lips I crave

and in the end, an indulgence
unsatisfied.

by Margaret Bednar, February 15, 2018

succor: help; relief; aid; assistance.

This is for "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Imagined by Rommy - "Love Hurts" - heartbreak/jealosy..."  A twist on Valentine's Day...

Also linked up with "dVerse Poets Pub - Meeting the Bar - Brevity"  Write a poem no more than five lines.

You have to love the 1980's -  One of my favorite movies that pokes fun of that time is Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.  I start laughing at the very beginning!

"Produce Aisle"

"Produce"
Produce Aisle

I've always longed to melt into Monet paintings,
feel his strokes of color upon my skin
warmer than any summer sunrise.

Renoir's eye for intimacy,
Cezanne's bright shapes,
Picasso's creative boldness -
all these things I see as I mingle amongst the produce,

fondle golden beets, caress cantaloupe's contours,
relish the idea of organic beauty upon a canvas,
my brush creating a world of swirls and dashes.

I arrange delicata to the left, a radish's greens
hail from the right, red peppers and aubergine eggplant
centrally featured, shift the pomegranate around,
imagine it outlined with sure, dark Van Gogh-like strokes...

frame these produce divas as they seductively pose,
swear the pear's channeling Marilyn Monroe
(perhaps the butternut too), sungolds pout their red,

and the kaleidoscope mix of carrots claim best dressed
in their gowns of atomic red, cosmic purple,
and lunar white. I take a quick photo of my market still-life,
sweep them off their "red carpet"

take them home to be boiled, baked, chopped, devoured -
fate unchanged, yet destined to be remembered,
perhaps with a brush stroke of summer sun.

This is linked with "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Rommy's Challenge - Synesthesia"  The idea as to swap sensory imagery - What does a sunrise taste like? Does the sound of crickets have a tactile feel?  were examples.  I think I got off track - comparing the produce to divas and a glamorous red carpet type of walk...  Or maybe my sensory is the visual (imagination)?

Delicata?  a delicious squash.  Here is a link to 15 fantastic pumpkins and squash recipes and I have used a number of them... Not only cute but yummy.   https://www.thespruce.com/winter-squash-and-pumpkins-2217736
