Kismet

Kismet

Bees absorb Autumn's sun,
astors drape field and valley
as storm clouds gather.

Cattle tagged and fattened,
idyllic days slumbering.  Numbered.
As are canopies of olive, lime, and jade.

Flip of calendar page.  Season's first frost.
Security and fate change
as quickly as that.

This is linked to "dVerse Poets Pub - Quadrille #71 - Change".  44 words incorporating the word "change".   This is an older poem (2014) that I have reworked.

Here are some quotes on "change" that I really like:

“Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
― George Bernard Shaw

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
― Mother Teresa

“Fashion changes, but style endures.”
― Coco Chanel

“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.”

“To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.”
― Winston S. Churchill

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road…Unless you fail to make the turn.”
― Helen Keller

“The changes we dread most may contain our salvation.”
― Barbara Kingsolver, Small Wonder

“And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees
and changing leaves.”
― Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse

“If you want to change attitudes, start with a change in behavior.”
― Katherine Hepburn

Hi Margaret. thank you for posting and especially all the wonderful quotes. but this isn't my prompt. This was done for dVerse Poets Pub, Quadrille Monday given by De. A quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words using the word change. But Thank you for think I did such a wonderful prompt. A wonderful Poem. I love the asters and the bees, especially as I began keeping bees last summer.

the sleepy days under a lime jade olive canopy ... that drowsiness, the calm before the storm - and the sudden lick of time that calls for change - season's licking frost ...

lovely images drawn here (but to be honest, even if you've reworked this, I think it begs for more words - a lush stream to compliment and complete it - so this is a teaser for 44 - just my thoughts, of course, not set in concrete)

Good reminder: "Security and fate change"

I loved the title of your quadrille.
Concluding lines are profound -
'Flip of calendar page. Season's first frost.
Security and fate change
as quickly as that'
Loved the comparison of calendar page flipping to changes in security and fate.

A real-world view of change with some excellent quotes! I like the observation of "Cattle tagged and fattened, idyllic days slumbering. Numbered."

A gorgeous poem throughout, but I am seriously just gonna live in this line for a little while:

"Bees absorb Autumn's sun"

Goodness, what a visual and warmth that creates. Stunning.

Things change very quickly with Season's first frost. Now, its biting cold over here. Good to "see" you Margaret.

Oh I love this... the season's change is important to remember especially when it seems to be dark and cold forever.
