'Tis the Season

'Tis the Season

As a Northerner, I call it a southern chill,
days dip below thirty-two degrees,
an inch or so of snow (if lucky) gone in three days.
Songbirds flit and flutter 'round ol' birdhouse,
a bit more furry in their flurry,
posturing reminiscent of the O. K. Corral

 - - gaze unwavering --

slightly narrowed as I scan from balcony
for Russian dancer, towhead,
performing before Nutcracker and Clara,
flourishes of gem-colored fabrics
reminding me of songbirds and him
a Black Capped Chickadee, so charming, so dapper.

This is for "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Fussy Little Forms: Puente" (Three stanzas.  1st and 3rd have equal number of lines.  Middle is a "bridge" of one line  (serves as a last line for first stanza, first line for third stanza.)

I love the bird motif that wings its way through your Puente, Margaret, especially the songbirds flitting and fluttering round the birdhouse after snow. Ballet dancers are like birds!

You provide two very different pictures, bridged so well by the observer and speaker of the poem.

You managed to pack a lot into a short form! The bridge is excellent.

What a perfect description of your son the dancer... a chickadee! This is adorable and wonderful, Margaret. Keep it forever :)

I'm with Marian... Your description of him is absolutely perfect. The same goes for your words on a Northern's perspective of winter. When I lived in the South, I remember wondering why people got so scared of snow that barely stuck to the ground.

I love the birds, and your Black Capped Chickadee, ready for the dance. All of your children are so talented, Margaret. What a busy household it must be, getting them to all the practices! Awesome they are all involved in the arts!

The birds are doing a good job here as usual. My favorite is your Russian dancer, I've had experience with one. She was the lead dancer and dance instructor on the Queem Mary cruise we were on. She was small and sooo light on her feet and seemed to know my moves without my intentional leading. I will never forget her, your towhead birds chose an excellent model.

Oh yes, stay warm and dry. Right now you should be having the nasty storm that slightly flooded our Houston.

Love the birds, always. I think of them as folk dancers with their flitting and hovering. a wonderful poem. Chickadees are dapper wee folk.
