Adieu
Every spring I anticipate the songbirds,
thrilled to glimpse first flashes of jeweled color,
sip mint tea, wait for lyrics to filter in through screens flung wide
to embrace new life, joy, and warmth of the sun.
Today I'm forlorn as the last one wings southward,
storm windows securely shut as my coffee grows cold.

I am never ready for the cold .....
The contrast in the scenery and mood is so well captured!
At my house, we were just talking about how quiet it is now that it's cold and the windows are closed. Something to look forward to in spring, for sure.
I love the photo! How you captured that moment on camera is just amazing. There is something about the silhouette that speaks of a passing season.
A beautiful poem capturing the coming of winter bleakness.
Oh winter, you chase away the songbirds. One of my favorite things about winter though is to see cardinals among the bare tree limbs. They are red wings of joy in bleak.
