"Margaret"

Margaret

I'm really quite a simple girl,
rarely indulge illusions of grandeur,

yet there are moments
I ponder myself a queen, a princess,
or a resident at 10 Downing Street -

imagine escaping a dragon,
being martyred at Antioch -

was disappointed "Margaret"
rated only three stars -

remember as a teenager
wishing my last name was "Mitchell".

by Margaret Bednar, November 7, 2013

"Margaret" is a movie that actually, under "Rotten Tomatoes" garnered a 3.5.  :)

I googled my name and this is what I got… you should try it.

This is for Friday Flash 55 - a story (or in my case, poem) in 55 words.

Ah yes, wouldn't it have nice to have been Margaret Mitchell?

(I wanted to be Mary Queen of Scots - LOL.)

I enjoyed reading what Google associates with Margaret, especially the "resident at 10 Downing Street".

I like how you added a personal touch to this; it's always interesting seeing what the internet "thinks" about you, isn't it?

Wonderful use of this technique--a google search can spur an identity crisis of sorts. Excellent!

A lovely poem and a lovely picture ... but maybe simple is better?

I'm definitely glad you are you and not the Mitchell lady nor the movie. You are infinitely more, and this poem shows it. I like the picture of innocence as well. That song from Camelot comes to mind: "The Simple Joys Of Maidenhood."

So you made me look, Margaret. And you know who the first Kim is that comes up on Google - Kardashian. Ummm...yeah...so...let's just say I liked your options so so much better. :)

I like your Princess persona. Suits you (and your lipgloss) :)

Well, maybe someday someone will be doing the future equivalent of Google and wish they were you!

Nice hat. :-)

I was wondering how a name could garner only three stars. I had no idea it was a movie.

You must save that hat...pull it out every year for Hallows Eve. Margaret is a good name. I'm afraid to google my name.

I've always preferred "Maggie" because I think it sounds more youthful and cute. Clever 55.

I will certainly give you five stars for your photography and poetry. I can only imagine how wonderful you have to be to create such beauty. Love the costume.

When you're name is Joy, and you're me, googling it is all pretty ironic. ;_) I love your Princess 55, Margaret--you look very charming(and even regal) in that hat, and I also like the way you slip in Margaret Mitchell at the end. There's also Margaret Mead, whom it might have been pretty interesting to be.

This was really adorable, and actually your charming photo gave me the answer to my pondering over my next birthday party bash for a four year old! The hat reminds me of the story lady from you've got mail, Meg Ryan remember that fun movie. I have googled my name before, but mostly what pops up is a 70's Bunny girl, but what the heck I'll try it again!

Terribly clever! You're prettier than Mitchell too! You're a beautiful queenly lady, EXACTLY what the Lord designed you to be! I truly love your blog! Any new creations by Chelsea or your son? Faithfully Debbie

Such a wonderful, personal twist that you put on the Google list poem prompt, taking the results and sculpting them into something self-referential and yet not, delineating yourself both by what you are and what you are not.
