Not yet October - and still pretty green. But we are READY! :) |
It doesn't take much,
just a flick of an ear
imagine he's dreaming
of scampering the trails -
so I rouse him,
find ourselves treading
a sea of scarlet, red-russet,
and ochre,
chasing whirling
free-falling helicopters,
kicking a few rolling hickory nuts
not yet squirreled away,
collecting unsolicited
hitchhiking cockleburs,
enjoying October's
afternoon bouquet.

Margaret, I enjoyed the imagery and the energy conveyed by your poem.
Awwww, looks just like my little Sammy, Margaret!

You gave a great picture of the joys of October with pup! (What a cute dog.) They definitely do enjoy scampering trails, don't they?
Margaret: his face is so alive (almost human)
what a lovely excursion into October you have delighted us with
I know the pooches sentiment is "can we do it again tomorrow???"
Hugs...
You take me there. The narrator, dog, environs and poet all connect in this bouquet.
What a treasure. There's nothing like playing with a canine friend.
nice to be with ourselves and our lovable thing:)
Sounds perfect.
What an absolutely wonderful bouquet. So unlike mine, who are big and gruff. But I love them.
What an adorable dog!! Good to see his is ready for fall. :)

Lovely, Margaret. Our dog is always ready to go as well. They add so much to our lives.
Visiting a 2nd time for the G-Man prompt: Just as enjoyable the second time around. Dogs really know how to savor life in the moment, don't they?
Beautiful romp through fall images.
Margaret Bednar...
Everyones in the mood tonight.
I LOVE IT!!!
And I love and appreciate your always classy and top notch poetry.
You are a special gift to us all, and I feel very lucky to have your weekly support.
Thank You from the bottom of my heart, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Sounds like fun, but I'm totally not ready for Fall. I just need about three more weeks of Summer, and then I'll be ready. Alas, it does not appear I will get it.
What a lovely picture of autumn you've painted for me, 7000 miles from San Francisco, in Mumbai...where there is no leaf change and we're still catching monsoon rains.
Can't wait to get out on the trails again past the hot, muggy, buggy season but, that season seems to be year 'round these days. Thanks for the imaginary relief.
The Devil Made Me Do It
Beautiful! I am so ready for fall!
I love all the shared enjoyment and appreciation of the natural world you pack into this,Margaret and the dog is just adorable! My big furry girl is very happy for the cooler weather, which not only is more comfortable for her, but means more and longer walks.
What a nice walk in the leaves! Little dog's innocence and pure joy lightens the blow that summer has flown the coop! Nice write!
"hickory nuts
not yet squirreled away,"
well they are busy on that task in my back yard but....October is the time not to put away the fall memories
Ha! could not feel the connection in any way better than this!
