My Totem
We are riders
on the storm of life,
paths crossing, pausing
to bask in china blue sky's
gentle breath.
For but a moment
you lean into me, content,
heartbeats shared.
Submissiveness
is often considered
weakness,
but your spirit,
gentled, is truly
a powerful guardian.

This is linked with "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Sunday Mini-Challenge". Susie showcased two poems written by him, which I found very interesting. For the challenge we were given several Jim Morrison song titles and needed to use one in a poem. I selected "Riders on the Storm".
I don't own Sebastian anymore, I only have one horse, Oberon. But I get to see Sebastian all the time as we are at the same barn. HERE is a recent post from my horse blog - it has a video of Sebastian as a baby! He was adorable.

Beautiful poem Margaret. I love the ending. I went and viewed your video's of Sebastian, such a beautiful animal as well as Oberon. And let me gush more about your fantastic photography...wonderful. Thanks so much for taking part in the challenge!!
very sweet.
Oh it must have been hard to let go of that beautiful horse! You ride ?
Steve says that was the correct book and Thank you!!!
I just got a friend to take 15/20 photo's of my Paso fino- so glad of it!
Izzy - I do ride. Sebastian was young and green and James Cooler and he will go far and are a perfect match, in my opinion. I felt like I would hold that talented horse back - and plus, I get to see him every day!
picture and poem complementing each other perfectly.
Beautiful poem, beautiful horse!
What a nice way to appreciate him. Your poem is so respectful of who he is. The picture also says it all.
I love hugging a horse's neck, the smell, the texture, the sheer strength of the animal ... lovely photo and lovely poetry.
This made me sigh in a beautiful way. That last verse melted me.
What a beautiful horse (and photo) - I love your poem, especially about the gentle power of horse as guardian. Lovely.
your view of love as expressed here shows mutual guardianship. nice!
Love that last verse Margaret ~ Beautiful picture too ~
Wow, Sebastian is beautiful. I don't see how you could part with him.
LOVE the feel of your verses! Beautiful photography !
"but your spirit,
gentled, is truly
a powerful guardian." beautiful Margaret... I think there is certainly a grace filled strength in surrender... not giving up, or giving in, but surrender.
Weakness and strength don't always show up in the form we might expect, do they?
Hi, Sebastian! :-)
Beautiful verses & image!
Beautiful Margaret...the tenderness
and the China blue sky-all capture the delicate dance of life!
Sebastian is beautiful
Oh, the beautiful Sebastion! What a horse to ride the storm!
submission is actually a very powerful force...love the intimacy you share with your four legged friend...smiles.
What a marvelous image of horse and rider against the horizon like that, Margaret. And the accompanying poem is just perfect for it.
Beautiful, Margaret! This could apply to people as well as horses!
Beautiful horse, beautiful photo. Your words are, once again, superb.
I don't think there is any other animal that is quite as majestic looking as a horse--definitely my favorite animal. Have a lovely weekend. Mickie :)
