IGWRT's Sunday MIni Challenge "Life"

Life

Everything must bend
for life's a mistress demanding
and favors not.

by Margaret Bednar, April 22, 2013

This is a lune poem introduced to me at Imaginary Garden with Real Toad's.  Lune poems are a minimal thought reverberating with maximum effect.  For further info on the form, click on link.

Everyone bears a cross, all bend to life's demands, one way or another.  Some do it with incredible grace and become a beacon of hope for a very, very long time.

I have been thinking about Annette Funicello who died of Multiple Sclerosis last week.  HERE is her website.  There is a video titled "Annette's Story" on her front page and can be accessed there.

HERE is a version with all the parts merged together.  It is about 30 minutes, and I found the second half especially moving.  Her grace, strength, and class shine throughout and is a positive message I will carry within me forever.  This sounds rather dramatic, but for various reasons it really touched me.

I also linked this with IGWRT's Open Link Monday.

Lovely lune (don't you love the way those words sound together?) You are so right about each and every one of us carrying something heavy ... how we manage it is the key!!!

I used to use a quote at the bottom of my emails that said, "Be kinder than necessary; everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."

Margaret, your photo is spectacular. I LOVE your lune. And when I have time I will come back and watch Annette's film.......I loved her when she and I were both kids........when she was a Mouseketeer.

Thank you Margaret, for the nice introduction and example of the lune poem. I sometimes (??) write loon poems.

I would unhesitatingly bend to a demanding mistress if it were a life and death decission. I love your painting. It reminds me of The Bridge in Monet's Garden where I once had Mrs. Jim take my picture.

missing picture me
haiku fault?
no bridge lune delight

Jim - I wish I painted like this... it is a photo. Of course, all poetry has a different meaning to those who read, but in my way of thinking, Life doesn't give us a choice - she will bend us at some point... Thanks for the mini poem and you need to find that photo of yourself on Monet's bridge!

Margaret, this has to be my favorite of all your photographs heretofore. The lacy delicacy of the willow, the bits of color rising from the bank, and the water's reflection... it gave rise to a lovely lune.

I agree, the lune challenge was fun. It's an accessible form, one in which even I (form-challenged though I be) may participate.

One of the best links I've clicked today, and with good reason. Peace to you, Amy

Margaret, whether it is a painting or a photo, it is your art, and it is stunning!
Your lune is wonderful, too.
I worked very hard at the lune prompt and managed to mess it up masterfully. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.
You, however, managed it masterfully.

Your pic complements your poem perfectly. 'Mistress Life' pulls no punches. True words.

Everything must bend...
That first line says it all.

I love the new profile picture as well!

Everything must bend, but in its bow it must know how far it must go before it breaks...Lovely words and the photo is gorgeous!!

That's fantastic! And I think you introduced me to a new form, which is timely because a reader was asking about the form of my recent poem, mutant haiku. I am drawn to the distillation of small poems that reverberate far. the majority of my poems are small.

The image is incredible, Margaret, and is a wonderful tribute to Annette Funicello.
