IGWRT's Fireblossom Free Verse "True Vogue"

True Vogue

Designer trends,
make a woman
or so they say

insecurities, fears,
loneliness
hidden

until a gentle touch
unbuttons
frees a poetic soul

pretense
flung aside
love her only accessory.

by Margaret Bednar, February 16, 2013

First of all, I want to share these drawings with you... they are my daughter's from this year, her senior year in high school.  She has been accepted into all three colleges she applied to: The Art Institute of Chicago, Kansas City Art Institute, and the University of North Carolina School of Art.

My daughter's art blog is:  Artistic Adventures

This poem is written for Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Fireblossom Free Verse.  For an excellent description check out the link.  She did an excellent job of describing what it is... and my attempt is just that... an attempt.

WOW, kiddo! Your daughter is amazingly talented! Wonderful work. Your poem is just so good. I especially love the final stanza. "Love her only accessory." Perfection.

I think you did a fine job, Margaret, and I know you are a much better poet than you realize. You wrap the poem up with that ending and give it a lovely, enriching, romantic twist. I love it.

Yayyyyyy on the THREE acceptances! That's fantastic! Good luck to her. :-)

I have got to link this marvelous post to my own blog in some way, Ms. Margaret! This is what I am talking about! Not just freedom to live nude--though that is pretty wonderful--and I have a poem for that--but also the freedom to share naked and undressed thought, art, poetry--"pretense flung aside." Kudos to you and your daughter. I have loved all the prompts that engaged her in our art--and I am glad to read an unabashed Margaret poem again. How proud you must be!

The lush drawings of your daughter--so full of that mysterious voluptuousness female bodies convey in their bumps and curves--are echoed in the richness of your words...this is excellent free verse, Margaret, and congratulations to your daughter. I have fond memories of the Art Institute of Chicago--it was one of my refuges growing up--it cost 30 cents to get there on the CTA, and a dollar to get in, and inside was all that incredible wealth of art and human accomplishment a poor girl would never have otherwise even known.

PROUD mama and so you should be!!!! WOW. Margaret, your daughter's work is exceptional!

I love that you show meaning in the unveiled woman whose only accessory is love...so often the material world bungs up the genuine and true-the beautiful meant-to-be accessory.

Very well done, Margaret...thank you for sharing the great news with us! Congratulations!! :)

Simply beautiful words and capture of the essence of life. We cover ourselves with so much fluff when all that matters is the love underneath it all. That makes us all equal. Beautiful art! I know you must be so proud of your daughter's gift.
