IGWRT's Sunday-Mini Challenge "Celestial Canvas"

Celestial Canvas

Upon midnight blue
twinkling visions flit and flirt
laurel, myrtle, azure, and sky

as I, of orbs that never close,
recline beneath leafy canopy.
Watch as Strawberry Moon

reaches through slatted sanctuary
smoothing eventide's blanket
about my velveteen.

Tomorrow, my creator
will climb aloft and hold me close,
as whisper, I, celestial secrets in her ear.

I'll watch as tingling radiance
travels lengthy fingertips,
saturating canvas with magic.

I have also linked this poem with Imaginary Garden with Real Toad's "Sunday-Mini Challenge"- Dolls.  I will be writing a few more original poems based on student-created dolls - this one I wrote back in June as it is my daughter's creation.

My daughter (below) with the doll she created for her junior high school class at a University.  It is all hand stitched. She has a doll "baby" she has loved since she was one year old.  It is, well, something that should probably be burned, but she protects the well-loved doll with her life (believe me, at one time I tried to purge my house of it).

This doll was to reflect her in some way, as well as the "container".  It is a tree house.  She could just as well have put the doll in a swing as that is the other thing she adored as a child (and still does).  The moon and stars have always fascinated her.

and with "baby"...

Oh, my daughter also loves crowns and Paris ;)

This is a wonderful way to make us all aware of the process behind the dolls, and what they meant to their creators.
I love your luscious choice of words, particularly the strawberry moon.

Wonderful prompt and I like the poem too. I do have a question. How can I download one of the doll photos from Real Toads? I tried clicking on the photo I want to use and got it on a black background with the other photos at the bottom. I tried copying this to my new post on my blog and it blanked out everything else on my post (the poem LOL). Anyway I know there is a way to do this!! Peggan@aol.com. Thanks

A wonderful share--doll and daughter and poem. I love the richness of the play on words canvass and teen and images: eyes/orbs/velveteens/fingers . . . .

PS: Is the doll huge or the daughter tiny?

Aww, this is so delightful... your poem, your daughter and her lovely doll. What an accomplishment!!

That doll seems nearly alive, and no wonder...look at the artist who made her, all smiles and happy with the doll she made!

One must always watch out for a redhead, and this one seems to be comfortable in any melieu. Treehouse or tea party, Paris or Podunk, she's so there. I love her!

This doll reminded me of you in some ways when I saw her--perhaps because she is so fashionably well turned out--but now I make the connection through your daughter, as daughters and mothers do share a lot, though of course, are both individuals in their own right(even if they sometimes have to fight to prove it. ;_) ) I really enjoyed the serene self-image of this poem's narrator, and can picture her sitting on a crescent moon and humming happily. Thanks so much for this wonderful challenge, Margaret, and many many thanks also to the talented young people who made these amazing dolls.

I love your daughter's depiction of herself. What a wonderfully creative suggestion from her teacher. I also love your poem. I was going to choose a favorite part, but when I started trying to write them down I had almost all the poem copied. Great Work!!

Awe... so many nice comments! I want you to know I have read through this at least three times.

The doll is a good size, as you can see it next to my daughter. Not all were this size, but some were. The mermaid was quite large, the "horse" much smaller.

To be honest, I love your daughter's doll the best...and not just because she's your daughter! :)

I am swiping that last "Paris" picture to write to. Okay? If that's not allowed, please let me know and I won't use it.
