dVerse - Literary Allusion, "The Interlude"

"The Kiss" 1892, Tolouse Lautrec
The Interlude

Entwined heat simmers, lingers
as early morning peeks
through plantation blinds.

Passion replays behind sated lids,
an encore.

My mind savors your eyes, dark.
Chestnut locks, wayward.
Muscles, simultaneously gentle, intense.

Ecstasy retreats behind awkward smile
arms and legs unscramble,
as I realize "he" isn't "you".

by Margaret Bednar, originally written 8-25-2012

This is for the amazing dVerse Poets Pub - Meeting the Bar - Literary Allusion.

I wrote this poem originally for Imaginary Garden with Real Toad's "Fireblossom Friday" and I linked it with a video clip from "Bridge Jones 2" (warning: The original & sequel are total chick flicks :)

it is a bit rude when the morning does not match the dream...

I beg to differ~i love both BJ movies. The hugh/colin fight is a classic, and what guy can resist parachute panties?
Your poem reminded me of bridget sky diving~a wild ride with an awkward finish.
Nice twist

Oh my. Well told, you left no hints along the way for the surprise at the end!

I love the visuals you paint with your words. You take us softly into the south with images of sun peeking through plantation blinds, then surprise us with images of rather illicit embrace:

"arms and legs unscramble,
as I realize "he" isn't "you". "

Well captured, this "Interlude!"

This works with the hug of a woman too, and then open eyes. The wrost part is they can tell, usually, they were not the one being hugged. Some loves are hard to forget, or times. Sometimes the person we are hugging is the same person, but remembered the same way. Anyway, I enjoyed this much.

I always feel that our fantasies enhance our realities. Superb and unexpected!

A passionate piece with a twist ... wow !!! Delightful :-)

I'm still wondering about the twist -- there are so many ways to view it! Fine bit of crafting, though.

I agree with those who say all sex takes place in the mind--I think your poem illustrates that perfectly, and also captures the heat of the painting.

I enjoyed the twist at the end and the wonderful expression of passion. A few years ago I saw a Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit at the Art Institute in Chicago...so many works. And yet, I'd never seen this one before. Thanks.
