Poem "Glorious Promise", 67/365

Glorious Promise

Oh, pretentious October,
Trees impress with reds and golds
Gloriously displaying
Autumn Maturity

Stealthy November grasps hold
Strength, life deteriorate
Carpet ablaze under foot
Cold, wet, fading, decaying

Seeping into mother earth
Slowly gaining dignity
Restoration is at hand
Easter's promise unfolding

by Margaret Bednar

As I was walking the sidewalk to my house, I saw this beautiful leaf.  Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that it waved majestically from the tree?  Alive and vibrant.  Now it is fading, and soon will be gone.  But nature rejuvenates, and in the Spring, life is renewed.

I am one who is of an "organized" religion.  But I can truly see God's hand in nature, his voice and I can understand why for some people, this is enough.  Taking a walk through nature, amongst the trees, wind in ones face,  flowers vibrantly displayed - it truly refreshes the spirit.  How many people NEVER do this?  I truly think if we all slowed down and enjoyed ... embraced nature, we would be much happier.

Unless you have major allergies.... :)

I agree I wish we could slow down. I love your poem and your leaf, so poignant and beautiful. By the way I am nearly 48!!! don't worry about your age, you sound very sprightly

Justine, not worried so much about my age as I am my hips LOL

Carol, Linda & Tess, It's funny how one form of art can lead to another. I took the photo and noticed the faded leaves underneath and just got to thinking there was a deeper meaning here... Thank you for the compliments.

This is such a striking, beautiful photo, Margaret! I also love your poem of pretentious October, stealthy November, and the Eastern promise unfolding. Well done.
