lino print be me, Margaret Bednar
Allure
With a sweep of her eyes
she read the room, not for what was,
but for possibilities.
Red ties alluded power, but one,
a bit twisted, a bit loosened,
defied the "importance" of the room,
obligatory whisky held loosely,
sipped, fascinated her
as his tongue followed just as slowly.
She lowered her eyes, adjusted her dress;
of an era when bra straps shouldn't show
and ladies didn't stare.
Reticent by nature, she downed her Mojito,
side-glance a bit unsure, rum and mint
a slight burn; something they laughed about
for years to come.
She kept her dress, ditched the bra,
learned how to entice with a tempting eye;
a possibility he spied when he'd read the room.
He lost the tie, slow-danced in their kitchen,
enjoyed the range of contradictions
she tossed his way; possibilities, promises,
adventure.

Oh yeah, the prompt word... and there it is in a wonderful line, "range of contradictions"
Well done.
Excellent six.
Enticing and evocative in equal measure. Great Six.
I like how they both "read the room".
Oh this is such a good poem, a sensual dance of courtship!
great job, good graphics
When did it become an ironclad (if unspoken) law that all powerful men must wear either red or periwinkle ties? It's boring!
What a fabulous opening line - "not for what was, but for possibilities". Not everyone has as keen an eye. Love the rhythm of your words as they wander the room, in search of, until they eventually find each other.
Choosing red ink for the title was a nice touch!
Your words are dancing to the rhythm of your characters.
Beautiful lino-print.
A meeting that was meant to be! Delightful.
Some enchanted evening they both read the room correctly, soul mates. Wonderfully inspired poetry.
I join my compatriots and cohorts in acknowledging a right fine Six Sentence Story*
from the low-darkness expanse of a certain Café (& Bistro): murmurs of applause and knuckles on table-top applause.
muy coolito
* all the more enticing, a pome what don't mind kicking off formal shoes and mixing it up with the prose and narrative bunch
Hot stuff, Margaret! And the woodcut? Just beautiful!
