Solace

123rf
Solace

A chilled martini glass
is a vessel for indulgence,
sometimes solace:
vanilla vodka,
Godiva chocolate (liqueur and grated),
dash of cream and ice, shaken.

Heralds back to scraped knees,
summers on the porch,
Nestle Quick triple scooped, stirred,
chocolate milk mustaches

better than bands-aids any day.

I like the comparison of a drink from childhood and the more "grown up" version.

Mmmmm. A comfort drink, indeed! Love the adult version, and how it harkens back. :)

Way better than bandaids...love how you tie the childhood memory with the adult version.

child memories of a comfort drink in a new and improvised way - necessity is the mother of invention - love the quadrille and the drink - yum

Oh, that sounds so delish. Love how the object of indulgence has changed but the vessel remains the same. A delectable read.

I wonder....do they still make Quick? Enjoyed your poem.

That drink would be better than a band-aid.

I love how the simple word "shaken" can lead to the childhood memories, and the reader's dawning realization that maybe this adult beverage serves as more than indulgence, the scraped knee a metaphor for the pain the drink will ease. Very nicely done!

I love the parallels ... I think we can never outgrow the chocolate. The scraped knees are childhood fortunately.
