"Here We Go Again..."

Here We Go Again...

The Sound of Music lifts one's spirits
sells out community theatre seats

as does Oklahoma;

actors resign themselves,
wish for avant-garde, a tiny bit Bohemian,

even mildly revolutionary

but humming patrons
singing along with familiar wins the day.

Next season promises Grease.

This is linked with "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Day 27 - Let's Join the Children"

and with NaPoWriMo 2018 (30 poems in 30 days)

Having a little fun as these theatre classics have their place and I do enjoy them, but they are over done in the sense that most community theatre's and high schools do them over and over again.  I NEVER need to see another production of Wizard of Oz again.  Grease is fun and always will be for me, but it is probably overdone in high schools :)

I invite you to listen to me read my poem:

A sad but true commentary on the rigid conformity in our world abound in ignorance.
Avant garde is something written about in pre - millenial books. A few days ago I bought a some art books from someone selling books on a street stall. As I was leaving carrying the large books she said out loud " at least people will know you can read"

Indeed... sometimes the classics can feel a bit repetitive. Even at big theaters it happens... a tad bit "avant-garde" would be great.

A plea for a little freshness I think... something new...I can see that even though as time passes I become more of a "old fuddy duddy" who holds on to the past... :)

I understand your feelings. Having a child performing helps :-) Change is good, but difficult to accept with some very old favourites. :-)

I can relate to the feeling of exasperation.. I seriously believe that if one can not preserve the magic ..the charm of theatre then high schools should restrain from performing them over and over again.

When I came alone it was Camelot, Oklahoma, and The King and I. But you are right, the audience wants reliable, bland, and just enough to showcase the talent. Thank you for the prompt!

... or Mamma Mia! Nice challenge Margaret.

Helen has it right, Mamma Mia! would be great. But maybe too serious for the younger set and players and singers? I like Little Theatre but we seldom attend. Also we have a summer series in the Park over at Houston. And the Miller Theatre in town plus several smaller ones. George H.W. Bush and Barbara had season tickets several rows closer to the stage than ours, to the Miller. Seems each high school puts on a play each year, it should be that way. (But we have seven high schools in our district, Katy I.S.D.) The Houston area is much more sports minded than theatre, that changes things too.
Oh yes, thank you for the Kiddy Art prompt. And wouldn't you know it but when we came into the Country Library this afternoon there were a whole bunch of school kid's art. I used a photo of the Bumble Bees from there to illustrate my post tonight.
