Of Quilts & Killing Fields
Come spring they'd stretch
between birch and pine,
dappled light dancing lovingly
upon tufted ornamental stitches;
billowing sails filled with earthly fragrance.
Beneath snowdrops
lay twisted and mangled;
a killing field begun
by a twitching tail
and a desire to please.

As a child, every spring my cat couldn't wait to spend more time outdoors and start hunting - he was always so proud to show me his efforts... I don't deal with this now as my three cats are all permanent indoor cats.

Wonderful!
Oh dear.. a little predator in the spring garden.
Love how you begin with 'ornamental stitches billowing like sails with March's earthly fragrance' and then end with 'a twitching tail and a desire to please.' Beautifully penned.
Wonderfully laid out dreams versus what could be
Nicely done, Margaret! I couldn't imagine what could befall those innocent quilts!
Nice juxtaposition of colour and death.
Oh dear that predator we call our pet... it's not easy to deal with the sparrows and finches they bring...
Ah those domestic tigers....
Those furry darlings... I love how your bright quilted day is changed by a twitch of a tail.
