"Stirrings"

Stirrings

When is the last time
you felt the warmth of a dirt path
beneath your feet, inhaled
the mustiness of a still pond, tickled
your palm atop the tips of tall grass, mimicked
the call of a Canada Goose?

Go, listen for the stirrings of spring
and don't forget - you're a part of it too.

Margaret Bednar, April 2, 2014

This is linked with "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Taking it to the Streets" hosted by Susie Clevenger.   Write a "street poem" offering a bit of wisdom, hope, encouragement, or something to bring a smile to someone's face.  I imagine my poem on the office wall - perhaps a few will leave for the weekend a bit earlier and head for the countryside?

For the month of April, I am participating in NaPoWriMo2014 or National Poetry Writing Month.  The website is HERE.

In celebration of this year's challenge, I will be giving away a free book of my poetry.  If you are interested in participating in this drawing, please click the red logo at the top of my side bar and leave your name and a means to reach (blog, email, etc) you in the comment section.

Margaret, what a wonderful photo of the little boy at the beach. Happiness. Love your poem, and love the "you're a part of it too". Yes!

Love your poem! The feelings of doing all the things you have told in your poem will be enjoyable!

I love your banner pic - I'm sure I see some poetry written on the beach bench. Lovely! Your poem would surely stir the office-bound employees to seek a portion of the spring day for themselves.

Now that I think about it, I can't remember the time I walked barefoot down a sandy path. On the beach sure, but not down a dirt road. Not since childhood and dodging the hot spots where the sun would make the sand so hot it would burn your feet.

Oh I love this one. It is still rather cold here...but today will be warmer. We walked a boardwalk along the ocean yesterday but with hats and mittens.

Beautiful and thought-provoking, also compelling! I'll tell you what, I can't remember the last time I've been out in the world, but you made me want to.

Kiss.

Love your poem..It urges us to stop to see and feel spring. It does come for us even in city streets. Thanks so much for taking part in the challenge. Love your son's picture!

The tickling of tall grass . . . oh yes. Bring it on.

Yes, that would make any townie grab his hiking boots. A good deed.

I am blessed to live in a plot of paradise, mid-city, enjoying the wonder of nature and the fabulous energy of urbanity.
