Winter Solstice
Bud and blossoms
long since bowed low,
stripped, and stilled -
nakedly sway
as Capricorn's frigid breath
snuffs day's light early upon its quick.
While Orion's Belt sparkles
like a diamond broach
pinned to velvet nights,
we gather close beside the fire,
ponder infinity, celebrate faith -
pursue renewal.

renewal will come...winter is all part of the process of new life...to death, to a tightening, a drawing in, a rest, so that we may grow once more....merry christmas margaret
Love the bud and blossom beginning.. you've beautifully carried us through winter...now what about spring? Happy Holidays!
Beautiful, Margaret, especially the celebration of renewal.
So meditative... a much-needed calming.
I like the imagery of diamond broach upon velvet night ~ Ponder and celebrate renewal ~ Beautiful picture Margaret ~

I love the idea of gathering close before the fire at this time of year!! So important to find a way to be warm in winter!
Your poem warms my soul, and your photo is dreamy!

Lush pause here, deep inside the moment of solstice, bringing earth and night sky and hearth of home together to say: Yes. Yes indeed. -- Brendan
Oh I love the Orions belt imagery.. you painted such a serene picture of winter solstice.
So perfect for the season, Margaret, and this photograph is truly beautiful.
Some nice imagery in this so glad I came over for a read.
Beautiful photo and poem, my friend.
Great imagery Margaret. Love that second stanza especially. Fine work.
A beautiful wish in the closing lines, Stellar! Merry Christmas and a happy new year
The celestial imagery you have painted is beautiful in this, Margaret. I love that you made mention of Orion's belt, velvet nights, and Capricorn's frigid breath. What a wonderful and unique way of capturing late December and winter's solstice. This is soft as a winter's whisper, and just lovely!
Life, a constant renewal, never more obvious, perhaps, than when spring emerges from the cold grasp of winter.
Exceptional reflections, both in imagery and emotions Margaret ~ Merry Christmas dear~ Faithfully Debbie
"Capricorn's frigid breath
snuffs day's light" very good. This brings to mind how breath can stoke the fire or put it out, the choice is with the breather. Darn that Capricorn!
This solstice becomes more and more important to me every year, Margaret. I'd like to pursue it more.... :)
