"In Pursuit of Peace"

In Pursuit of Peace

Serenity is upon the water,
swirling, floating.
It is in trees, posturing
amongst leaves, content,
teasingly before me.

I breath deeply, thinking
I can capture such bliss,
but it eludes me.

So I lower my camera,
still myself.  Observe cardinals
flitting about, cocking heads,
seeds cracking between beaks,
finches chasing food scattered
upon forest floor.  Notice
one shy fellow perched
in branches, high.  Witness
a dance as they swoop
and with perky feet, balance
along feeder's rim, pirouette
upon dainty toes before gliding
to lofty shrub all in a rhythmic
harmony I faintlly hear.

Laughter and talk break my trance,
human feet tread my way
and I'm surprised to find,
that for a few moments
peace had been mine.

This poem is dedicated to the subject of PEACE.  Of finding peace.

I have linked this poem with "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Open Link Monday - "Dona Nobis Pacem" (Grant us Peace).

Nature has so much to offer us and we just need to absorb it peacefully.

I enjoyed the serene and joyful evocation of nature. I like how you pause and can just enjoy the birds dancing in front of you. Beautiful photo!

I just love those moments, and try to be aware of them and to savor them when they come. I loved the play of the birds in this!

Super charming poem, Margaret--you describe the wonder of being out of one's self (and yet totally in one's self) just looking. Putting down your camera may be a part of it (or not!) I find that I love taking my iPhone on walks to take pictures--it does take one away from what's happening a bit, but it also is like having a companion along the way. Thanks for your kind comments of late. I am doing a lot of job work, mainly , but also trying to figure out an old novel manuscript. k. (Karin of Manicddaily)

Ponds and forests have such a way of drawing in passers-by. Your poem, from the start worked for me!
"Serenity is upon the water" sums up the nature of a nearby pond that rests beside a forest of old trees. This poem is a moment of peace!

Beautiful. It really is those moments when lost in nature's beauty that I am most often at peace.

As a amateur photographer I so understand this. I find such peace in nature. I am surrounded by humans where I live, but that tiny space of woods behind my house is often my sanctuary.

The minute I read you lowered your camera, I knew I needed to do that more often! Thanks for the reminder.
