IGWRT's Artistic Interpretations & Friday Flash 55 "Southern Belles don't Sweat"

Southern Belles don't Sweat

As magnolia trees blossom
porch-side, we settle
beneath alabaster blooms,
complexions glistening,
subtly catch ourselves
a few beaus.

Creamy vanilla scent
draws them like flies,
skirt hems delicately lift,
careful chaste ankles
never be cause
for undue attention.

'Course, Mama's rules
are made to be broken,
especially when sweet sixteen
has come and gone...

by Margaret Bednar, July 19, 2013

Over at Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, I am hosting "Artistic Interpretations".  Please swing by and see my photographs. If one inspires you, I invite you to join the fun and write a summer poem!

This is also for Friday Flash 55.  Another wildly fun weekly prompt.

My dear Margaret .. AND you told Galen you didn't know what the word
'poontang' meant. Delightful poem..

Helen - now that I do, perhaps that should have been the title!

This made me smile...the idea of Southern belles not sweating but 'glistening."

Your poem made me a bit thankful to live in the 'sweaty' North! LOL.

`That's the great thing about being a Southern lady; you can get away with a lot once you reach a certain age!

What a gorgeous picture and words to savor delicate as vanilla ~

Lovely Margaret. I'm obviously not a southern belle, as this weather makes me 'glisten' like a horse!

This made me smile, Margaret. My mother always said that "ladies glisten -- they don't sweat". She obviously never saw me in my kick-boxing class! :)

Beautiful.
I'm envious. I don't glisten, I melt.

Lovely summer scene. I love the smell of magnolias but do not find it often here in S Calif. Good prompt. Thanks.

Love this poem of southern charm and a hint of temptation. :)

When one of the rules is don't sweat, impossibility suggests other breakages as well! Fun.

Glistening yes! As ladies do! Like the magnolias. Apparently it's an official flower for some states. Nicely Marge!

Fortunately I am a Western hick and not a Southern belle, because I sweat buckets!
