Schooner "The Pride" of Charleston, SC |
"Friday Flash 55" & "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads" challenges are at the bottom of post.
My husband and I just got back from celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary. We took a sunset cruise in Charleston Harbor on a schooner and it was mildly windy and so fun. We are helping our daughter move out of boarding school and attending her graduation this week and then she and I are taking a three day mother/daughter get-away.
I miss my blogging pals very much and hope to have some time to visit during this next week, but will not be posting for another week.
Happy 23rd Anniversary |

The following is for two challenges. Friday Flash 55 and Imaginary Garden with Real Toads "Artistic Interpretations. (I'm the host :) The following artwork is by my daughter, Chelsea Bednar.
Mortal
We choose a path
unblinking,
begin as pliant saplings
eagerly bend, sway,
reach for the sun,
confident springtide is eternal.
Until one day, breathless,
we seek shelter,
gaze upon the commanding view
of yesterday: Frivolous!
Seek to be not merely
ornamental,
and for the first time
hear the tick tock of time
and fully awaken.

Even your hastily written prompt entries....
Are brilliant observations, and Mini Masterpieces!!
Your Children are creative and talented
Your husband is THE luckiest bastard on the planet
You are the most loving and unselfish Woman in the Tri-County Area.
We are ALL truly blessed by you
Thank You for all you do
Have a Kick Ass Week End...
(Click..... Flicks off the light)
Wonderful word usage, I like your two line stanzas.
Margaret, I also used Chelsea's art, because of those details of the clocks and the ankh. Really talented family you have, and the pic of you and your hub is so sweet. Happy anniversary!
The poem - the "commanding view of yesterday/How frivolous!" Seems like the forest serves as a place of respite from the passage of time, allowing the narrator to seek new goals? Loved this. Amy
Coming of age always seems to make the childish years seem frivolous. Too bad, isn't it? I would we could have the old tree and the sapling, work and fun--and we can even if we separate it out for a while. Gosh, this poem captures the moment of change. How appropriate for a graduation weekend! Please let Chelsea know how her artwork has been rocking our worlds.
Happy Anniversary --looks like a fun celebration. Seems like our 23rd was yesterday--and last weekend we celebrated 44th.
Ah, now I see the second poem. I visited this post earlier in the week, and did not realize it was for your prompt - or perhaps you had not added the poem.
We choose a path
unblinking..
This is a great opening line for intriguing interpretation of your daughter's abstract art.
nice on the anniversary margaret...that is awesome...we are celebrating our 17th next saturday...
the schooner trip sounds fun...hmm...file that for future use...smiles...
its interesting how hearing that tick tock of time will affect us...and depending on how long we believe we have...it will def wake us up....hopefully...
Anniversary wishes and hope you have many more!!
A wonderful take on the pic! to say that we hear the tick tock at the end when all the while we were workinn around it! A very profound piece!
Your cruise looks just magical, Margaret! Many congratulations, and I know how much you must look forward to the fun you and your daughter will have on your get-away. I love the poem, with its sense of slow awakening, and peace.
It is very easy to see that your children inherited their inner and outer beauty from both mom and dad. Great poetry, Margaret.
Oh, my!! Huge congrats on 23 and on your daughter's accomplishments!! Thank you for sharing your eyes and your voice...such a gift.
I love your poem, especially this:
"Seek to be not merely
ornamental,"
This really struck me...so much meaning and truth in this.
Thank you for the wonderful challenge, Margaret!!
First, congrats on your 23rd! My husband and I just celebrated our 20th. Quite an achievement these days!
I love your interpretation of the artwork! The ending, especially, really speaks to me.
Congratulations on your anniversary and on your daughter's graduation — probably as much your triumph as hers.
I enjoyed your take on your prompt (??) and my favorite lines are
"and for the first time
hear the tick tock of time"
— I don't remember when that happened to me, but it sure did. I used to be ten feet tall and bulletproof, and now I'm an old lady, so it was sometime in between there. LOL
Have a super time away with your daughter and we'll be happy to see you when you get back to the Imaginary Garden.
K
I'm overwhelmed with your gracious responses. Thank you, all!!
Congratulations, again, on your 23rd anniversary...and BRAVA for the mother-daughter get-away. You clearly know how to live life to the hilt.
