Reflections on the Sea
by William Bednar
I love you like I love the inland sea,
In all your many moods and temperatures.
In silence, as in storms, the sea is free.
And you, with ocean eyes, have such allure
That leads a sailor on to certain death
In Winter waters, blanketed in ice.
You've bought my beating breast with heated breath,
And having known your lips, I've paid the price.
But as the Summer waters love the Sun,
So too, your eyes at rest are kind and warm,
And find my heart-strings, let them loose, undone,
And in these gentle waters, lose their form.
So if you ever wonder what I see
When looking in your eyes, I see the sea.
I have been swamped this past week and have not had a chance to write any new poetry, so I offer you another poem written by my son who is now almost a Junior in college! I have paired it with a photo I took of a Lake Michigan sunset.
This is linked with Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Open Link Monday.

Loving your son's poetry ...
Thanks for sharing him with us.
This is one of my favorites of William's. I especially love the closing lines. Beautiful.
How gorgeous! William certainly has a flair for sonnets, such an exacting form and they seem to roll from his pen.
Beautiful, Margaret. I especially like:
You've bought my beating breast with heated breath
this is a beautiful image and beautiful words
He does gorgeous work, Margaret!
He is quite the poet- ! Your sunset is beautiful too, I was born and raised in Michigan so it's always fun seeing things from Michigan or anything to do with Lake Michigan!
Wonderful writing by William.
Were it written to me my heart
would be doing a pit a pat.
I hope things settle down for you soon, Margaret.

wonderful piece. very poignant and so befitting a description. You and your family are a bundle of talent bringing joy on both canvass and paper!
The voice of a born poet. I hope he never lets it stop, or throws it away for the sake of a job with big money or maybe a Title.
He's SUCH a good poet.
