Poet's United - Wonder Wednesday "Detour"

Detour

I'm not on that bridge
the one I'm driving under;

where does it lead,
what is there to see?

I follow the paved
double yellow dutifully,

wondering if the other
meanders through a scenic route

of farms, trails, historic homes,
perhaps a few grand mountain views;

decide to cutback, detour,
look down upon where I have been,

full of excitement for what lies ahead
as my children lament,

"Here she goes again!"

This is for Poet's United - Wonder Wednesday #11 Bridge.

Further proof we should wander off the planned path now and again ...

Absolutely! It's always a treat for me to take off on roads not ventured before (by me) many fairly close to my house even) and what beauty there is just waiting to be discovered!

As long as someones not throwing under the bridge, you're OK!!

Taking the road not taken! I love it. My children used to call it "Dad's LONG cut" (instead of a shortcut)

I enjoyed this. Sometimes you find the most interesting things off the beaten path.

SPECTACULAR photos, especially the bottom one. Well worth the detour - keep taking them. I love seeing the sights through your camera lens!

They will only lament until they too begin to wander. Lament will then turn to wonder. Very nice post!

I love the sense of anticipation for the beauty and awe that life brings if we're willing to traverse the bridges in our lives.

Your images are stunning...as always...I love that straight line that cuts across the first photo with the position of the bridge in relationship to everything else...in the second image my favorite part is the shadow of that tree limbing up on the left on the gray of the stone bridge...just gorgeous!!

That's such a great idea Marge! A detour presents the best. We get to go to our destination but have fun along the way. How nice! Te pics are fantastic!

so many places, choices routes. Who said a bridge to "such and such a place". They lead everywhere, if crossed in the right spirit. Thanks you for a lovely poem.

Loved "here she goes again." The children may lovingly lament now, but they're on a bridge to understanding.

I love detours when time allows, perhaps we should all make more time
