Still Life, 1670, detail by Jean Francois de Le Motte |
Castles in the Air
Rhythmic strokes
and elaborate swirls
captivate my heart;
your desires, hopes, dreams
of times past
pulsate
beneath my fingertips.
I tuck them into
keepsake box
beneath our bed,
slide in next to you
wishing those words,
your castles in the air,
still existed within us.

This is in response to Magpie Tales #121, photo prompt above. I also have linked up with "Imaginary Garden with Real Toads "Open Link Monday".

ugh! a very good one.
this is the 3rd different take i have read on this picture.nicely done.its amazing how everyone finds a different angle to look at the same picture.
Perhaps the memory box needs refilling with updated contents? LOL
How nice, Margaret! The feelings of endearment and love is still very warm and tender. Great write!

Beautiful! Boxes can hold a lot of memories, even though they cannot replicate the actual experiences! I enjoyed this.
I like the feelings in this. Excellent response to the prompt.
That’s rather sad- having to re-read old love letters when the sender is lying there beside her. I foresee an empty night ahead.
I thank all of you for your comments. I meant the poem to be poignant and loving, but a bit of longing in her heart for the man he used to be.... perhaps life has beaten him down a bit... but she loves him, non-the-less.
I always wanted to look through a romantics keepsake box and wonder if it would house the same things mine would if I had one. I don't think my junk drawer in my bedroom counts...but it can be pretty interesting when I clean it out annually....lol. This was magic...great writing.
Beautiful, Margaret!

Bittersweet and beautiful...
Oh yes those sand castles can be bittersweet for sure! Lovely poem!
This is greatly poetic. In between feelings of the past and the present!
Lovely...last two lines I loved most...
aawww. I know the feeling, but do slide right on out please! It's ok to visit, but not to stay.
