Antietam - Bloodiest Day on American Soil - iPhone imagery

The Antietam Battleground in Maryland was the bloodiest day of the Civil War with over 24,000 men dead upon the rolling farmland photographed here.  These are from my iPhone, using "Instagram" textures (instagram is a free app and very easy to use).

The National Park Service has done a wonderful job with preserving this historic place.  Over the course of the next few weeks, I hope to be able to put some of my thoughts and feelings into poetic form.  I have many photos to share from my Canon (my real camera) as well.

It was a three day trip, driving through beautiful Virginia (I so LOVE Lexington, Va) and my first time in Maryland.  I will go back as I saw numerous quaint o-l-d towns I want to explore.

I am linking this to Rural Thursdays and Friday's Fences.

Simply amazing, Margaret. The shot of the flower entangled canon against the brooding clouds is nothing short of a work of art.

Gorgeous captures. I visited Antietam in 1999, but unfortunately, was not in photographer mode and didn't get many photos. Thank you for sharing at RT this week. xoxo

Margaret, Great photos!! I'm sure you already have many thoughts "spinning" through your mind for poems using these pictures as inspiration-they would lend themselves well to some deep and beautiful words. What a lovely and interesting 3 day trip you must have had--a beautiful part of the country to drive through. Have a great weekend. Mickie :)

Wonderful use of Instagram, Margaret. You're making me want to go back to explore the state of my birth. I lived there only the first year of my life so I have basically no memories...except for the couple times I have visited since.

This is an amazing collection Margaret!! I love how you've treated them...some grainy, tinted and I love the ones that look like oil paintings. Wheat and the length of fence are my favorites!! It is going to be so hard to pick one to write about!! SO many greats!
