Sunday we had a great time with a photo shoot. I have been playing around with the idea submitting a few photos to a stock photography company. There are so many out there. Does anyone have any experience in this field? I do know that one should be at six months ( or more?) ahead of any season... these spring photos would be too late for any magazine to use. And of course, my own critical monster in my head makes me hesitate. I just have so much to still learn about photography. I look back at some of my earlier attempts and cringe. Will I look back at these and say... "yuck"? ;)
I have become much more detail oriented in composition and lighting... I almost never use a flash now, just available light, and I have narrowed my field of interest down to a few specific things, which is supposedly a good thing if one wants to be a stock photographer...
So, any information would be appreciated as I really know nothing about it.

My advice: go for it!
Very novice photographer here so can't offer any opinions about your possible new venture. Do know that I appreciate your work. How did you achieve those soft focus flower shots in the horse pasture? Lovely.

Faye... For this scene I didn't even have it on manual... I had it on automatic "Portrait" setting. Sometimes I just don't have time to fiddle with the controls... and I knew I had to get it before my horse, Sebastian moved and started walking towards me (he is always hoping for an apple. :) I was also kneeling down very low in the grass. I don't mind muddy knees...

I'm not sure on horse photos but my buddie Suzie says you can make a LOT of money on flower and other plant shots. Not sure via what sites tho. I'll have to ask her.

Gorgeous, Margaret! Your photography is just fantastic.
My nephew Paul has been selling photos through iStock for many years. He earns about $1000/month! I tried submitting a sample several years ago, but my camera wasn't good enough then, and I had "artifacts" in my photos. ;-) Paul's best seller is an emergency sign at a hospital! When I submitted my sample around 5 years ago, they were saying they didn't want nature, flowers, and the like. They want people, business scenes, etc. Since you have people, kids, etc. you should do very well! You don't even have to have your kids sign a waiver! :-) Go for it!
