Poetry Jam "The Fragile Cord"

The Fragile Cord

Sidelined upon the horizon
I hover out of focus
barely discernible

whisper patient encouragement,
watch as it whistles past
unnoticed,

remind myself for the hundredth time
wisdom often isn't from success,
it is lessons learned from our failings.

Forever connected by a fragile cord,
I watch and learn how to truly pray
from my heart.

by Margaret Bednar, Art Happens 365, March 22, 2012

It is all about "Connections" over at Poetry Jam this week.  Hop over and check it out.

This poem is also linked with Friday Flash 55, a story in 55 words, no more, no less.

So lovely and very touching, especially-

wisdom often isn't from success,
it is lessons learned from our failings.

Forever connected by a fragile cord,
I watch and learn how to truly pray
from my heart

this is just lovely, Margaret, and a good reminder to accept apparent failure with good grace...

true on the path to wisdom and the humility of prayer as well...it is usually those failings that will drive us to really learn that...

Hmm. I am not sure if anyone got that I am watching my child "a young adult" from afar, the "fragile cord" the umbilical cord which never REALLY ever disappears :)

Thanks everyone, maybe I should rework this a bit...

I immediately thought of watching an adult child--and they are always our children no matter how middle-aged they get. I like the way you described this.

Parenting changes so much, but you never stop loving and praying. Just wait until grandparenting! :-)

Great to see you back.

But it's so hard to let them make mistakes, especially when the consequences can be so bad.

Ahhh, beautiful.

And The Wise Ones That Be tell us we have no failings. When we perceive we do, it's pesky old ego sidetracking us again. And I'm finding that more and more true with time.

Good going on doubling this up for a 55 and for Poetry Jam. You are so much more than beautiful, inside and out.

Such a gift. Something that should be easy can often be so hard, I find. Beautiful poem!
