Friday Flash 55 - "The First Kiss"

The First Kiss
We trembled with anticipation
as we walked along the dock.
Shyly glanced at one another,
awkwardness multiplied.

Faced each other;
lips puckered,
as if experiencing
a sour lemon.

Bodies
a mountain range apart.

It finally landed
like a butterfly
on the corner of my mouth
and swiftly fluttered
away.

After fifty years,
we have improved.

The above is a Flash Fiction 55 originally written for  One Stop Poetry's "One Shoot Sunday".  It is no longer :(, but its archives can be found on my sidebar.  The photographer interviewed was Katherine Forbes.

Today I am sharing this resurrected 55 for "Mr. Know-it-All's" Friday Flash 55.  Can YOU write a story in 55 words?   FYI:  This is NOT about me ... I am only 40ish years old!

That is a pretty special memory to be able to look back on (even if it wasn't yours directly). I like you innocence-flavoured poem in 55.

This just made me remember how clumsy I was when I got my first kiss. Well, I can say I've improved too. Hahaha :D

I remember in middle school I had my first kiss after "Rec Night". I broke up with the boy the next day as I was so nervous to have to kiss again. HA HA.

Very nice, like we're in the moment with them. Glad they (and all of us) were able to improve :)

Yep...
There's nothing like sloppy kissin'
I can't POSSIBLY imagine you being anything other than the recipient of said wayward buss...:-)
Loved your 55 Margaret Bednar..
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End...
(Yes, I'm in the Mountains, and they are spectacular!)

You can sure "put a lot" into 55 words--love it! So funny when you broke up with the boy so you wouldn't have to kiss him again--oh the foolishness of youth!!! Have a nice weekend. Mickie :)

I really liked that picture as a prompt and your "First Kiss" perfect down to the awkwardness

Thanks Margaret for all your smiles during the week

Maybe you can just say this is about the future you, Margaret. Nice! :)

Came from Friday 55.
Love the sour lemon reference - there was always that worry about what her lips would taste of...
please, not curry!

Thanks for visiting my entry earlier.

Really evocative and sweet. I knew it wasn't about you, but it was good of you to add that caveat!

My first kiss was outside my junior high school, against the wall by the garbage cans and heating/ventilating system. Still, it was magic. :)

Cute! A couple of months ago I spoke with my very first girlfriend of the sixth grade. I still remember kissing her in the cloak room behind our classroom. Mouth closed, eyes open. Hers weren't. I had completely forgotten about this part, but she reminded me that afterward I leaned into her and expressed my concern that she might get pregnant from it....... Although it is probably always the most awkward kiss of our lives, I think that our first kiss is always the most special......

Worth a long, long "Ahhhhhh . . "

That is a sweet poem. I remember after my first kiss I rushed back home and brushed my teeth and washed my face really hard.

You have many pretty pictures in your past posts. I love the horse – it is a beauty.

That first kiss, indeed. Can never forget it! :) I love that it just gets better and better and that you captured that in your poem. :)
