Friday Flash 55 "Evening Haze"

Evening Haze

A muted silver haze
drapes its cloak
upon the winter pond,
envelopes me with a pair
of luminous swans
in a world of quietude.

Lethargic ripples
tickle the murky shore
where cattails
and winter grass
passively sway
and a blue heron's
shadow sweeps
the water's breadth.

I break the silence
whisper "Amen"
and walk home.

This is linked with Friday Flash 55 - supposedly fiction, but Mr-G is very lenient (don't tell him I said that :)  Whatever you write, it must be 55 words, no more, no less.

  5. It must be exposure to all the poetry on Fridays. Usually, I struggle to get the meaning of a lot of poetry, but tonight I am ALL OVER IT with understanding. I GET IT! And this was beautiful!

  6. I loved all 55 words ... reminded me of an evening I spent at Lake Toho.

  7. Thank you for the serenity, Margaret. I'm still laughing over your response to my 55 (and the answer is, "Of course!) :)

  8. There is nothing more peaceful than lethargic nipples, I say...(sorry--that cracked me up.) This is lovely and soothing, Margaret, and a great misty, moody shot of those swans.

If you just threw this together as you claim. I bow before your greatness...

  10. G-man. If only Mama Zen said 55 instead of 48!! And I do miss that window seat. And yes, I wrote the poem in 10 minutes. I almost panicked when I realized it was 8 pm THURSDAY!

  11. I did the throw-a-poem-together in 10 minute thing too, but yours came out much nicer and kinder than mine. I blame my current WIP.

  12. I love this picture and your hazy poem, the luminous swans. Wonderful description. I have a pond but I fear it's not as pretty.

(I could never get anything together in ten minutes, never make it by 8pm.)

  14. This is perfectly beautiful! The picture and poem both truly deserve an amen.

  15. Beautiful! And 'Amen' is probably the first (and only) response that would come to me had I been there... Consider it uttered here as an appropriate response to your poem.

  16. What a beautiful, peaceful mood you set with this. And 'Amen' is the perfect ending. Have a good weekend Margaret.

  17. I like the Amen, too! And since we see pairs of swans all over the polder all year 'round, this is very special, Margaret.
