Friday Flash 55 & Friday Fences "Hungry Like a Wolf"

Hungry like a Wolf

Tethered emotions
struggle for freedom
as I, mesmerized
by your wiggle
hunger to take the plunge,
risk drowning
for your taste
upon my tongue.

Don't be prudish.
Throw me a life-line
even if it means
loosing your head.
Break the rules;
my reputation as a wolf
is heresay.  Trust me,
darling, I'll be gentle.

by Margaret Bednar, Dec-6-2012

This is for Friday Flash 55 - (supposedly) a non-fiction story in 55 words, no more, no less.  I am also linked with Friday Fences #61.

I have been nursing our dog, Moxie, for the past few days.  Back & forth to the vet ER and bringing my daughter back and forth from school has me a bit behind on visiting blogs.  But I will be backtracking and catching up soon.

My daughter brought her home almost nine years ago and their bond is very tight, very special - this devotion is what has ME in tears.  She has rebounded and is stable.  There is hope.  Her liver numbers were off the charts and they think she has pancreatitis.  The liver is very regenerative and the pancreas can be maintained sometimes.  Time will tell.

  1. Everytime i've heard the words, "trust me darling, i'll be gentle"
    I've ended up in trouble.
That's one well groomed wolf. Won't the pack beat him up?
Glad to see pooch doin well, which means daughter doin well.

  2. ...Most wolves I know are rather.... "polished" :)

  3. I like the last ending lines, its a warning, a contradiction of the wolf's nature ~

Happy to read the dog is doing well~

    Have a good week ~

  4. Who is the white dog? I'm confused. But I am really hoping hard for Moxie's full recovery. I know I would rather be hurt myself than for anything ever to happen to any of my dogs that I have had, or Bosco now.

As for the poem, it's completely cute. Hey, sometimes hearsay is true! (and, I love Duran Duran. Are the 80s over? Are you sure?!?)

  10. Nine is pretty old for a dog. Not surprising she would be running into health issues.

    Love the inner-wolf 55.

  11. No! For Cockapoos the life expectancy is 12-15, often up to 18.

  14. I am sorry about your Moxie. I wonder sometimes if love is worth the loss, but only when loss hurts so damned much.

  15. Always the wolf within even if it is like chasing a car... what are you going to do with it if you catch it?
Nursing an old dog myself. Nearly deaf and blind and lame. Wrestling with the knowledge that, at some point, I will have to put her down.

  18. blessings for Moxie and your daughter and you Margaret... it is so hard when a beloved is ill, smooth skinned or furry. Is the pooch in the poem photos a doodle?

our standard poodle pretends she is ferocious at the door when someone enters, but she is just a big noisy brown teddy bear.

no worries about accepting or passing on the award... I'm glad it gave you pleasure to know I was thinking of you.

  20. I love the humor in the poem. Along with the photo, it makes for such a cute post.

So sorry Moxie is sick. I fully understand the grief when a good companion is ill. Hope the best for him. And you too, as I know you have to deal with your daughter's grief as well.

  22. I hope your little dog Moxie will be fine. It hurts us when our pets are sick. I don’t have dogs here but I had two cats – one died this year and it was very painful. Our pets are so much part of our family.

  28. So sorry for your sweet pup! I hope Moxie will get better soon. It's always hard to have an ailing pet!

Love the cute post...that red fence is wonderful!

  29. I loved the stalking photo! Labs and poodles are, after all, water dogs and I can tell he/she was just itching to get in the water with those ducks. A sick pup and a sick baby can certainly weigh your heart down. Here's sending thoughts and prayers your way.
