A Time Existed
A time existed
of endearments murmured,
wrapped within my arms.
Beloved hands caressed,
enjoyed
my dress of velvet, red.
Legs trembled,
uncomplaining,
passion
overwhelmed me,
plush cushions flattened.
Discarded.
Abandoned.
Forsaken for another.
Beside the road I stand
showing a bit of leg,
hoping to be cherished,
needed.

This is for Magpie Tales #93. Join the fun and write a poem or short bit of prose!
Margaret,
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy discarding an old friend, one that has shared so much with us but perhaps giving them a chance to bring happiness to others is solice enough.
Nice!!
rel
hope to be needed and cherished, what a powerful longing you have captured there.
ReplyDeleteamazing magpie.
'showing a bit of leg'. :)
ReplyDeletePoor sofa...
ReplyDeleteI love the sofa POV. What a character.
ReplyDeleteAaw, this is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI hope that peek of leg does the trick ... I enjoyed this, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteNice write, Margaret...I like the minimization here...
ReplyDeleteI love all the love and passion you 'stuffed' inside this sofa! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteWell done. It's a wow poem.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a way with your "passion," Margaret! :)
ReplyDeleteshowing a bit of leg - surely that will secure the old lady a new lease on life?
ReplyDeletelovely poem Margaret
Very well constructed metaphor throughout. The settee ends up dumped at the roadside - the rejected lover ends up a streetwalker. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteA saucy sofa, now sad.
ReplyDeleteShowing a bit of leg- a tad of knee perhaps ? thanks.
ReplyDeleteI really can not express how much your stopping by and commenting means to me. I started writing poetry a little over a year ago and now it seems to just be something I MUST do or I get cranky. I feel I stumble along, using free verse like a crutch, though.
ReplyDeleteTruly, thank you. Your blogs inspire me as well and I am so happy to spend my mornings with a cup of coffee and your creativity.
Human emotions within the confines of an aged red couch...remarkable write!
ReplyDeleteGreat tale of life's twists and turns...
ReplyDeleteAh Margaret, I like your take on this. Seems we both were thinking along same lines--being used and abandoned. Nicely penned.
ReplyDelete"Showing a big of leg." And a lot of decolletage. :-)
ReplyDeleteaww...being discarded is no fun at all...a couch or otherwise...traded in on the new model carries a lot of pain...
ReplyDeleteAwww...that's what we all want, to be shown a little love. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteShowing a little leg. Very nice image. Poem is full of nice images.
ReplyDeleteLove how you went into the mind of the couch...at first I thought you were writing the thoughts of someone who'd had great memories of the couch, but then I re-read it! beautiful work :)
ReplyDeleteA very human sofa. Delicious.
ReplyDeleteJust loved this and giggled at the leg showing!
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
Dear Art Happens 365: Personified, I feel this empathy for a couch all of a sudden...is this normal? Misplaced miss is missed!
ReplyDeleteahhh, the torment of caring....
