Catharsis
Seaside's tide nibbles my toes,
laughingly splashes,
at times crashes ferocious
seemingly battling destiny:
pulling, shifting, forever reaching,
eventually settling, violently or peacefully
as today melts into tomorrow -
and as I brush sand off my hands,
I toss yesterday towards the horizon
and welcome eve's refreshing breeze.

That is what the ocean does for us - lifts away our cares, and we start again, fresh and restored, tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI imagined the tide nibbling my toes, Margaret, and I love the refreshing breeze.
ReplyDeleteVivid and satisfying.
ReplyDeleteSuch a captivating opening image to this one, Margaret!!❤️
ReplyDeleteI really like how you define this sequence/action with some wonderful verb forms — the ensuing image is so satisfying. It is cathartic indeed.
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteThis poem makes me think of the rush of a retreating wave as it pulls the sand out from under my feet. Perfect imagery.
The thought of the beach made me think of how it always keep changing but still stays the same... there is an element of cycles you describe so well with the shifting of sand.
