Late Autumn
High crimson has faded
to cadmium & ochre,
slashes of burnt umber
pirouette and plie a mirrored reflection
an image so lovely
even Narcissus would see
beauty beyond himself.
A dark eyed Junco hops along,
scratches, stirs soggy leaves,
rustles his way beneath graceful arms
of the bog's grand ballet
oblivious of solo performance
and his brief moment of fame.

ReplyDeletebeautiful (and so cute!)
ReplyDeleteYour words paint an even more vivid picture than the photos. Gorgeous work.
ReplyDeleteSuch splendor in your words.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful picture you have painted with your words.
ReplyDeleteReally gorgeous work, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteI've had that weird feeling sometimes that nature is putting on a show for no one at all despite the fact that I'm a most appreciative audience. Nature's beauty is its own justification.
ReplyDeleteGreat moment you've captured. The idea of the bird having a brief moment of fame was great.
ReplyDeletethe one major disadvantage of living on the left coast - muddy colors, not vibrant like this ~
