"Preparations"
Caramel drizzled apples, wood stacked,
bonfire ready. Evening's still too humid,
yet a leaf spirals down, crimson tipped -
heralds, "Soon. Soon".
I fickly proclaim Autumn "my favorite",
weary of sun-filled, heat-drenched days.
Beneath my kitchen window
the fawn's still speckled, buck's antlers fuzzy.
Just a pane of glass divides
sweet green grass and apple pie.

This is for "Imaginary Garden of Real Toads - Flash Fiction 55. (or non-fiction - prose, poetry - but it must be 55 words - no more, no less) For my way of counting, hyphenated words count as one :)
i'm ready for the relief of cooler temps and rain, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm this sort of fickle, too! This makes want to hurry Fall.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning, Margaret. What a seasonal picture you have painted in words.

Love it...We don't get much of a fall here in the Houston area, but I am so ready for it to arrive.

ReplyDeleteI love the fawn pictures ~ Though I am glad its cooler now, I am sorry that summer has left too soon ~
ReplyDeleteLove it when the pool loses it's charm! Wishing you a wonderful week, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteNice 55, Margaret, it brings memories. I am ready, fall is here for me as of 9/1. Things won't change and fall weather will come towards the end of November down here.
ReplyDeleteI did think of my friend who had an annual Halloween wiener roast on his little acreage. But this year he is in now way too out of it to do that, Parkinson got him real bad. His mate is sooo nice, it has to be harder on her than on him.
..
The beautiful autumn colours:)
ReplyDeletewe have no winter here, or even fall, just brown, and sometimes a bit of green ~
ReplyDeletei like how you describe your proclamation as "fickly," as though maybe it's not really true, or only true today. nice!
ReplyDeleteWonderful imagery, Margaret. My favorite is this, "yet a leaf spirals down, crimson tipped -" slows time down to that one poignant frame. beautiful poem!
