February is
shades of grey and tan,
dull sage green
with etchings of black;
like a bashful beauty
wrapped within woolen coat;
or a cardinal flashing through
forest's canopy.
I take my cue,
plump pillows of grey & tan,
swipe soft-green upon lids,
slip on little black, paint lips red -
drop my robe, remind him
spring's almost here.

ReplyDeleteI love it, Margaret ~~ from the "bashful beauty" to the "dropping" part. The last, a surprise here, revived old memories here. I won't say more.
ReplyDeleteWe did use the same picture, I was intrigued, I guess by her standing so tall and looking so innocent.

I am sure the heat of the reminder would warm his heart ..

ReplyDeleteWonderful poem. I really liked the color of the artwork from the artist Lisa Graham you used. Thanks for the link. I enjoyed reading how she began her drawing and painting career.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is perfect for Valentine's Day. What a sensuous and tactile poem this is. I will remember the essence of this one for a long time.
ReplyDelete(Thank you for the tip on the movie "Stardust." I have not seen it, looked at imdb for info and have decided it is a must-see. :)

ReplyDeleteToo many people depend on a groundhog to tell them when to expect Spring.

You said so much with so little. Well done.
February is horrible. I am so ready for spring.
