Like Queen Anne's Revenge

Beached
broken, buried
like Queen Anne's Revenge;
bleached, faded
beneath blanket of blue
unless day trippers
pocket 'n display
as treasure

This past two weekends, my daughters and I took weekend trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We enjoyed Hatteras and fell in love with Ocracoke Island. The inlet where Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, was captured and beheaded is located on this island.

We were "day trippers" having taken the ferry to Ocracoke and returning to Hatteras at night fall.

    The seaside is an amazing source of poetic thoughts.. those scattered shells, the detritus of the ocean hold much beauty in the beholder's eye.

    I never knew the name of Blackbeard's ship was Queen Anne's Revenge. Instructive as well as lovely. And your photos as gorgeous. My daughter is taking a senior trip to the Outer Banks in June. I've never been : (

    oo those shells in the glass make some pretty cool art....we have a bucket of shells...might have to pull those out to imagine the beach, to beat the cold....nice alliteration in this too margaret....

    Many eons ago, Margaret, when I did not see with photographer's eyes like I do now, I visited this area and fell in love with it. I really need to go back to be refreshed...kinda like when we recently visited Savannah. New eyes! What a memory for you and your girls. Do they know how lucky they are???
