Winter Solstice
Bud and blossoms
long since bowed low,
stripped, and stilled -
nakedly sway
as Capricorn's frigid breath
snuffs day's light early upon its quick.
While Orion's Belt sparkles
like a diamond broach
pinned to velvet nights,
we gather close beside the fire,
ponder infinity, celebrate faith -
pursue renewal.

renewal will come...winter is all part of the process of new life...to death, to a tightening, a drawing in, a rest, so that we may grow once more....merry christmas margaret

ReplyDeleteThe celestial imagery you have painted is beautiful in this, Margaret. I love that you made mention of Orion's belt, velvet nights, and Capricorn's frigid breath. What a wonderful and unique way of capturing late December and winter's solstice. This is soft as a winter's whisper, and just lovely!

ReplyDelete"Capricorn's frigid breath
ReplyDeletesnuffs day's light" very good. This brings to mind how breath can stoke the fire or put it out, the choice is with the breather. Darn that Capricorn!
This solstice becomes more and more important to me every year, Margaret. I'd like to pursue it more.... :)
