Poets United - Poetry Pantry #166 "He Kissed Me"

He Kissed Me

He kissed me
and I forgot

we were different
as night and day.

He wasn't "safe",
wasn't "perfect".

His future?
An enthusiastic dream.

I could have gone on and on
about his faults,

but those baby blues
left me speechless

and then he kissed me.
Well, perfect and safe

never made me feel
like that.

  1. hardly a need for perfect and safe when you can have the rest! this is wonderful, Margaret.

  2. Ah, sometimes a kiss can really transport a person. And perfect becomes more important than 'safe.' Love this, Margaret.

  3. oh indeed, & i have a few stories of my own along this vein - funny how 'safe' doesn't appeal in such cases

  8. O, that abandon is sweet, the fruit is ripe and the poem--like the kiss--is perfect. Memories, poems like this, and fairy tales keep the moment alive and out of time, were we can retreat from time to time.
