"Afternoon Bouquet"

Not yet October - and still pretty green.  But we are READY! :)
Afternoon Bouquet

It doesn't take much,
just a flick of an ear

imagine he's dreaming
of scampering the trails -
so I rouse him,
find ourselves treading

a sea of scarlet, red-russet,
and ochre,
chasing whirling
free-falling helicopters,

kicking a few rolling hickory nuts
not yet squirreled away,
collecting unsolicited
hitchhiking cockleburs,

enjoying October's
afternoon bouquet.

  22. Sounds like fun, but I'm totally not ready for Fall. I just need about three more weeks of Summer, and then I'll be ready. Alas, it does not appear I will get it.

  23. What a lovely picture of autumn you've painted for me, 7000 miles from San Francisco, in Mumbai...where there is no leaf change and we're still catching monsoon rains.

  24. Can't wait to get out on the trails again past the hot, muggy, buggy season but, that season seems to be year 'round these days. Thanks for the imaginary relief.
