IGWRT's Words Count with Mama Zen - "Camellia, Dear"

Camellia, Dear

A beauty fair,
blushing and bright,
greets my eye
this morning light,

perfection worshiped,
a moment adored,

but

beneath golden lashes
and rounded form,
scented dreams
do but rot

discarded, scattered,
aging debutants,
beheaded.

Margaret Bednar, March 27, 2013

This is for "Words Count with Mama Zen"  Poe -etics - look outside, write something scary, make Edgar Allen Poe proud ... no longer than 50 words.

  1. That camellia is spectacular in bloom. I love the way you saw the contrast between the flowers and decay. It is an interesting perspective.

  3. I adore your design and plot: the two photos separated by the poem.
When I started the poem I thought "Arghh, another nature lover poem", but then it 'nicely' transformed (via the prompt) into "Gutsy Poetry" full of gruesome playful beauty.
For me, a hint of an earthy realistic way to view our lives at times.
Nicely done. [and thanx for the visit]

PS: in my comment box either you did an accidental typo, or (more likely) you computer automatically populates the URL box with:http://margaretbednar365.blogspot..com
which has TWO periods in it and creates a dead link, instead of
    http://margaretbednar365.blogspot.com
I fixed them for you, but thought you'd like to know so others can click on your name and find your wonderful blog more easily.

  8. How is it the beheaded are still looking lovely ... perhaps it's the magic in your words?

  11. I actually LOVE my floral carpet ... I like them better "beheaded" than on the bush :) Thank you, everyone.

  12. Love the last three words — seriously scary! (Meanwhile, I envy you your camellias. I can still see ice outside my window.)

  13. Very Poe-ish plot, and I love the debutante metaphor. Camelias are gorgeous, but always a bit artificial-seeming to me, with their huge waxy flowers and leaves...you catch the underside of beauty nicely here.
