The Mag #155 "Spiced"

Artwork by Joseph Lorusso

Spiced

Bold coffee served hot,
no cream, no sugar, no surprises,

until you embraced me,
ran your hand beneath my skirt

all before 7 a.m.  Tempted me
to toss routine on its head,

your smoldering kiss my caffeine,
our bistro booth forgotten,

Pumpkin Spice a tease upon my lips
as you winked, walked away.

Tonight, dessert will certainly be served
but this time, I'll provide the seasoning.

  1. "Spiced" is apt for the storytelling elements in this picture, including its colors. Coffee is just coffee until two cups are ignored in anticipation of meeting later.

  2. "until" is a big word here, Maragaret. I love the poem and was waiting, watching, ...

You left hope but left me that way. Just lovely writing. Thank you.

  8. Your choice to write in couplets was perfect for the image and your theme.

  9. Love the wink and walked away!
Good one- something like that- quick and 'spicy' as you say; would catch my attention better than long and smouldery-

  12. I went back to read your translation into French of the Pentameter iambic. It made a lot of sense to me and it was very good.

This last poem goes well with the painting, which looks to have a French style to me – well, the painting but also the poem – a little naughty….Cela a du piquant!
