Venus de Milo with Drawers, 1936, Salvador Dali |
Spring fills the room,
taunts candle's flame
as I pull sexy from dresser drawer,
hold it up, scrutinize,
wonder if lace trimmed satin
is a relic, question
if resurrection's possible.
Martyr-like, slip it on,
as quickly, take it off,
that Venus of antiquity
unrecognizable,
youthful vision hastily
tucked away, folded.
Thankful he's easily pleased.

Oh, I'd like to say this was completely fiction. Thanks, Tess, for drawing this poem forth! The above image is this week challenge for The Mag #157
This is also linked with Imaginary Garden with Real Toad's Sunday Mini-Challenge 14 liners (it is quite different than a sonnet! ... but it does turn on the 9th line! :) Also linked with IGWRT's Open Link Monday.
I am also linking with Friday Flash 55, a "fiction" story in 55 words, no more, no less.
made me laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteThe ending made me smile in acknowledgement. I have one that is easily pleased as well. (Thank God):)
ReplyDeleteThankfully he's easily pleased and no need to have a total spring make-over..Enjoyed this Margaret ~
ReplyDeleteSimply lovely and extra special when he's easily pleased! Oh yeah!
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to tell us he likes you best sans clothing?
ReplyDeleteHelen. Ha. Well. I'm just saying I'm far from having a 25 year old figure ;P
ReplyDeleteVery sweet and well expressed! K.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Margaret ~~ Sometimes our self image is a bit youthful. I save my old clothes just in case I will be able to wear them again.
ReplyDelete..
Ouch, that one was close to the bone. And so wonderfully expressed Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThat is what happened-I tucked my youth away! :D
ReplyDeleteI love this-well done Margaret!~
Va va voom Miss Margaret! Thanks for the laugh...I really enjoyed this! Those things are never on long anyway.

ReplyDeleteLovely fun.
ReplyDeleteAmusingly bizarre: do they open?
ReplyDeleteLike your higgledy-piggledy words to match.
Simply and beautifully presented as an experience, with youthful Venus teasing age. We know that deep in love sees beauty and pleasure in the enduring and hard won, not in the tricks of youth. (Am I lost in wishful thinking here?)
ReplyDeleteLovely pairing of image and words .. they are beautiful, aren't they.
ReplyDeletethankfully he is easily pleased...ha...smiles...there is a greater truth in that...
ReplyDeletereally like the resurrection and slipping it on like a martyr lines margaret....really cool piece...
HA! It makes things so much better when it doesn't take much to please them, I know. :D
ReplyDeleteOh my! You rocked this challenge, Margaret.
ReplyDeletewonder if lace trimmed satin
is a relic...
You dared to show us our fears, then reassured us that it's okay, after all.
That is quite the image. I love what you did with it!

This is so honest. I appreciate this kind of honesty, Margaret....great write. I love this line:
ReplyDelete"wonder if lace trimmed satin
is a relic, question
if resurrection's possible."
I love this and the last line is so perfect. I've not yet been able to part with all my sexy underwear.
ReplyDeleteLace trimmed satin will never ( in my lifetime) be deemed a relic!
ReplyDeleteSMILE-
I know the feeling!
ReplyDeleteCharming one Margaret!
ReplyDeleteFiction! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThe Venus with drawers? That slayed me.
ReplyDeleteThis was a wonderful tight write, Margaret!
Margaret....
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the verses of our college fraternity song... Phi Delta Tau
" there once was a girl named Venus
And we hold the secret between us
She gave all of her charms
And both of her arms
To be with a Phi Delt man!"
I'll sing the rest to you in another comment
Loved your multi-prompt 55
Thanks for this Classic, and have a Kick Ass Week End
time does take its toll but so long as we can be content and our partner's leased it's all good.
ReplyDeleteGman. Ha. Gotta love frat boys and all the bluster and bragging. Good times ... ;).
ReplyDeleteI love the wording "pull sexy from a drawer". I've done that quick tucking away thing a time or two, too.
ReplyDeleteExcellent fun.
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
You can dress them up but you can't take 'em anywhere...
ReplyDeleteAh, I remember the day I finally threw my favorite turquoise teddy away...a sad sad occasion, but as you say, thankfully there's a threshold on both sides of the gender aisle that gets lower with time. ;_)
