Magpie Tales #138, IGWRT's Wednesday Challenge, Friday Flash 55 "So,The Maiden says"

So, the Maiden says...

"He ravaged me sir!  I was
bathing in the pond,
stepped out to dry.  I had
no "designs", sir!  No knowledge
he would spy my private sanctuary.

Yes, his eyes ravaged me!  Left
me breathless, quivering, I fainted.

I remember nothing...

I'm sure you are wise, Father. He must
marry me, for I've been violated."

This is for Magpie Tales #138 and IGWRT's "Kerry's Wednesday Challenge" - an unreliable story teller (credibility questionable) and Friday Flash 55.

  1. How clever of you to combine these challenges. In retrospect, this picture seems perfect for an unreliable narrator and you told her version of events very well. Reminds me of all those Greek maidens who claimed that Zeus impregnated them.

  2. Oh such a clever mix of two prompts. Of all the responses to the photo, yours seems the most plausible to me.....well done.

  3. Very charming - the feint/faint especially funny I thought in the context of her alarm!

Thanks also, Margaret, for your thoughtful comment. k.

  5. Cleverly done - and he must marry her!

  6. Breathless indeed! I think you captured the scene-

  7. Ooh, that was politically incorrect. You made the woman falsely report being ravaged just so she could marry. How brave of you. And is that a priest (Father) or her Daddy? very risky. Fun read.

    really enjoyed this, Margaret!

  9. Sabio - I meant her "dad", but it is an interesting angle to consider... lying during confession.

I have a feeling many women (back in the day) willingly "compromised" themselves by being unchaperoned, coming in after dark, etc., just so a young man would have to offer his hand in marriage...

  10. Some people do indeed have eyes that penetrate....
    Thanks for the double-header.
    Loved your Compromising 55 Margaret
    As always...Fricking STELLAR!!!!

  11. :-D First of all, how wonderful that you were able to combine all of those prompts in one tight package.

Second, this made me laugh and reminded me of some good old shot gun marriages. What a clever little twit she is.

  12. I too noticed the Father could be a clergyman or parent. I like the extra layer of meaning this gives. Well done.

  13. entrapment? ha...well if he's seen all the good parts she best get something out of the deal....bathing in public, hmmm...

  14. Why do I suspect entrapment on her part?

  15. Oh yes, such a clever plot indeed! Nicely done!

  16. Super take on the prompt (one that absolutely stumped me). I won't get into the whole entrapment vs "legitimate rape" issue! This was just fun.

  17. Oh, yes...this surely happens as well you did well with this...at first I was thinking the worst and by the end I was questioning her story's validity.

  18. ...but in my writers mind, he never touched her... it was all a "ploy" on her part. Back in the day, even a HINT at scandal rushed couples to the altar.

  19. A hint of scandal, and Pa's trusty shotgun. ;_) I agree with those above who say this perfectly fits the pcture--she looks like she's having the 'vapors' to be interesting, to me, and you added that extra little manipulative fillip that made the story complete.

  20. You transported me back to that century, to that mentality .... so nice!!

  21. So clever. I really like that you take us to a different era with this prompt where "rape" can be just one look. Those are the "good old days". When girls are told that they can get pregnant by just talking to a man. omg. Excellent 55! Mine is here
Have you a ROCKING AND BLESSED WEEKEND!!!

  22. Great job on the 55 prompt. I remember nothing, but I'm sure I was violated!

  23. Sounds like reasonable wishful thinking to me! :)
