Magpie Tales #124 "Purging" & IGWRT's Kerry's Wednesday Challenge & Poetry Jam

Ophelia by Odilon Redon

Purging

I wish
for a lone teardrop;

a final vision, reflected
of our summertide heat.

Between my fingertips
I'll crush

spine tingling endearments
and heaven's hands,

toss your abandonment
towards darkened sky.

Blow, blow,
though winter wind,

freeze these eyes,
purify this heart,

for all seasons
must come to an end.

Also linked with Poetry Jam -Mood Swings.

I also linked this to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads - Kerry's Wednesday Challenge (Very) Old School.  The challenge to find a phrase or quote from Shakespeare and write a poem.  The phrase I used is:  Blow, blow, though winter wind.

  1. It is a slippery slope to interpret another's poetic writing.

I sense mixed messages of power, control and pain. But... I could be wrong.

  2. This is just beautiful, Margaret. Rooted in the Shakespeare but a stand alone poem in its own right too. Thoroughly enjoyed by this reader.

  5. Ahh.. she is resigned to her fate because of his rejection and yet, she still clings to that little bit of hope with the 'freezing these eyes and purifying his heart' She still sees the good. :)
    Lovely interpretation Margaret.

  13. "Between my fingertips
    I'll crush

    spine tingling endearments"

I really like these lines. Somewhere between the sadness and the melancholy feel of the piece, is someone with a firm grasp on the reality of the situation. Shed a tear for what is lost, and then move on to better things. Nice capture, Margaret!

  17. Great contrast between your hot summer and its absent yet present polar opposite. Everything travels in pairs in this world of ours. I really enjoyed it.
